Every year, my family holidays in a village on the Algarve called Alvor.
This year the flights to FAO are so expensive, my father has decided that it is too expensive to fly there. So we have two choices, FR STN-SVQ and drive to Portugal or TAP/BA LHR-LIS.
I have managed to convince him that LHR-LIS is a better option (mainly because i dont really fancy FR).
The price difference between TAP and BA is about £50. (BA more expensive).
Opodo also found the cheapest option was to go TAP out BA back.
So i just wanted the opinion of others as to who they would choose, and as to what we can expect service wise on both carriers.

Aside of BA's crew speaking the Queen's English with that quintessential British accent I couldn't find much between the two carriers.
I flew PDL-LIS-LHR with an A310 of TAP and then a B757 of BA up to Heathrow, the seats and pitch both felt comfortable, the crews were both polite and the cabins were both smart and well presented. TAP gave me a hot roll which wasn't bad and a nice change from a cold meal, whist BA's service centered around a sandwich. They were both great flights and there was little between them.
Given the choice again I'd just fly whichever was cheapest, or in your case I'd take the itinerary which lets you go out on one carrier and then back on the other.

Quoting Baguy (Reply 4): We have just booked BA due to it now being £150 cheaper. But, unfortunately it is an A320 both ways AND Terminal 3
In 50 years time when there are only a handful of A320s left flying in forgotten corners of the world, you'll be glad that you got an extra BA 320 flight

I did LHR-LIS with TAP. The aircraft was nice and at the time it was cheaper than BA. I also got to fly CS-TEX when it was first painted in the new colours.
The service was nothing special and the staff were really plain faced, unsmiling and unhelpful. They didn't even bother with a safety demonstration. I didn't mind that as I get bored of hearing them.
Booze is available on the flight but you have to ask. They keep it on a lower shelf of the trolley. They will 'tutt' when you ask but ignore that.
When we landed at LIS they loudly played that very famous Portuguese song, (Not) 'Start me up' by the Rolling Stones. An odd way to arrive in Lisbon.
BA is a much better service.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.
