I'm looking to go to LAS around 3rd December for 7 nights from a London airport. I'm wanting to fly on a B747 but I think the only direct option is with VS for over £400 rtn. I don't mind going via another airport to get to LAS, but does anyone know the best/cheapest option to fly on a 747 to get to LAS? Thanks in advance.

The only airlines that fly to Las Vegas directly are Virgin Atlantic, as you said, and Japan Airlines. (I think) Other than that, you could fly on a 747 across the pond as LAS has service to most major US airports. Either way, enjoy your trip!

Well you can fly on BA to LAX which is operated by the 747 and from there fly to LAS.

According to what Orbitz shows neither AF nor KL would fly the 747 at that time (Dec 3 and Dec 10, respectively). A variety of other airlines and aircraft but 747 seems to be a rarity. So, your options seem to be:
- LGW - LAS with Virgin Atlantic, $713 (with VS you can also fly via LAX/SFO but that's more expensive)
- LHR - LAX with Aiz New Zealand and then to LAS with US Airways, lowest $783
- LHR - LAX with British Airways and then to LAS with US Airways, lowest $773

Quoting Mickster (Reply 4): LHR - LAX with Aiz New Zealand and then to LAS with US Airways, lowest $783

Or he can simply fly with Southwest Airlines from LAX. They are usually cheaper.
Air New Zealand to Los Angeles $574.89 or 392.75 GBP which btw, doesn't get into LAX until 7:30 PM, so needs at the earliest 9:00p Departure.
Southwest will cost $159.20 at the cheapest (lowest fare is $69 each way) or 108.77 GBP, their latest flight is 9:30p
United has a 10:25p departure and their price is also $159.20 or 108.77
So it would cost a minimum 501.82 GBP to do that plan.
Now the cheapest booking LHR-LAX is $513.81 or 351.07 GBP on "KLM" but flown on NW/DL doing LHR-MSP (A333), MSP-LAX (A319), LAX-DTW (A319), and DTW-LHR (764).
Plus another 108.77 GBP for this and you get 459.84 GBP

JAL does not fly to LAS anymore. VS offers the only scheduled 747 service into LAS. Las Vegas Sands (owner of the Venetian and Palazzo) has some 747SPs which are used for private charters.
There are options like flying into JFK and flying to LAS on VX, DL, B6, AA, or US.
