I am due to fly with Qatar Airways at the end of May, MAN-DOH-HKG...
The flights are all due to be operated with A330-200/300's and when checking QR's website, all the IFE makes reference to is the 777's new "Revolutionary" new Onyx system...
As I am not flying on the 777, and on the A330's instead, can anyone tell me what to expect with regards to the IFE or should I pack my laptop with lots of films to while away the long journey? If I need my laptop, will I be able to find power supplies in Economy?
While on the subject of the A330's are they a pleasant ride with QR?
(I've never had a bad ride with in A330 so far, with other airlines!)

I flew on the QR A330s last summer from MAN-CAN via DOH and back and all the A330s except 1 were equipped with what seemed like new seats and PTVs with an adequate selection of movies, films, games etc. to keep you occupied for the flight! Unfortunately I don't recall having a power supply so you will have to preserve your battery I'm afraid!
The one A330 I had on the DOH-CAN leg must have just been an old one I guess....but it wasn't too bad seeing as it was a night flight!
And finally...the QR A330s flew smoothly, the crew were warming, and the food eadible!
But...I have to say, more than a 3-4 hour layover at DOH airport isn't too enjoyable. Amenities at the terminal are fairly limited and having spent the night transitting via SIN that same summer DOH was quite a contrast.

The A330s have been upgraded with newer IFE identical to the 777's, so you'll find that very pleasing. I think there are no power supplies, but perhaps the crew has a powerpoint in the galley.

QR's A330's are probably one of the most comfortable rides out there - pretty spacious with a great IFE system (though not as good as EK's ICE ) They also make liberal use of some pretty funky mood lighting, but it's not obnoxious as some other airlines can be (VS *cough* VX) They did have some older A330's flying around a few years back, though I haven't seem them around for a while now. QR's A330's runs circles around our drab beat up A332s flying around today.

Quoting Pe@rson (Reply 4): How much did you pay? Some terrific prices at the moment with QR to HKG. The lowest I've seen is around £280 all-in return, with a number just over £300.
Your hot on the money!
I was actually planning to back to Canada, and saw these fares and quickly changed my plans, I secured flights to Hong Kong for £283 from MAN! Not a bad price for a 5 star airline!
I have never seen flights to Hong Kong or the Far East for such a cheap fare, and beats Air Asia hands down for price or quality!
I live in Northamptonshire so I am a bit closer to LHR than MAN and really wanted to try out the A340-600's, but the connection in Doha was 8hrs and really didn't want that sort of wait, on what is already a long journey. I ended up choosing Manchester for a number of reasons, it was about £15 cheaper, also parking is so much cheaper there too, I find Manchester a lot less hassle and the connection in DOH is only 2hrs.
I can't wait to try QR and see what they are like.
Putting the flights a-side, I have never been beyond the Middle East and can't wait to try Hong Kong and see what its like. Im only there for 6 nights, so intend to cram in a lot!

Have fun! I'm off to HK in July.. on VS from LHR. It'll be interesting to hear what you think about the city.
