Just flew from CDG to MSP last week on DL/NW on 767 and the service was excellent. Not so excellent was the taxes and fees piled on by the CDG airport. The fare was free on the part of DL/NW from the US to CDG and also on the return.
The taxes and fees were $65.00 by the French government PLUS another $65.00 Luxury tax because I was flying C class. Paid a total of $130.00 to the French for this ow trip. I believe that the French and the English are the only countries charging this Luxury tax.

Seems a bit excessive to me . Can anyone explain the logic of this from the French viewpoint?

It was introduced by the former Chirac government in 2006 as a means of raising funds to provide aid to developing countries. Here is IATA's position:

Which equates to $65.00 each way for business class on a transoceanic route. I try to limit my complaining.  Wink

Yes, but the French got all the money and the US side got zero. Why?

I remember the U.K. having a ton of very expensive taxes that had to be paid if someone non-rev'd there from the US. Something in the ball park of $200-$300 for a RT non-rev travel. This kept a lot of those flights open - if I remember correctly the taxes were immigration taxes, facility use, something to do with plants or agriculture, and so on.

True enough. If it's any consolation, my recent LHR-DEN was like $250 for business class, while DEN-LHR is something in the ballpark of $65-$70.

Anyhow - I just try to avoid CDG and LHR. It is difficult, though, when those places happen to be your destination, not just a connecting point Big grin
