BA Load Request ORD-LHR-ORD

Can someone with inside information help me out? I need to get from ORD-LHR-ORD next weekend and the US carriers I have access to don't look very promising. I'm going to purchase ZED fares which can be used on AA and BA. The outbound AA flights look OK according to AA.com, but I'm more worried about getting back from the UK.

If you have access to BA loads, can you check the ORD-LHR flights on the 17th and 18th, and the LHR-ORD flights on the 22nd and 23rd.

There is always something called seatcounter.com unless you are hoping for someone to give you the full loads.

These are taken from the BA staff website which include overbookings, so you may get more accurate firgures from someone else...

When a 744 shows 50+ in Y, do you think they would overbook by anywhere close to that? I suppose having 50+ in WTP also is a good sign. Is it a good bet that BA 299 on 7/23 is pretty much wide open?

It just seems odd that the BA loads don't look too bad at all, and the US carriers are full (especially UA)

Loggat overbooking only takes place to the tune of around 10-12 on most US flights; even then, most people will still get on due to upgrades in order to accommodate overbookings; and even despite upgrades due to oversell, we rarely leave with no seats free due to no-shows and missed connections.

50+ is basically wide-open, so I would tend to opt for that as a safe option.

Bear in mind that between now and then, loads will change.

But also bear in mind that, unfortunately, due to the current climate, our flights are leaving with a lower than average load factor, summer holidays notwithstanding.

Be aware that BA sometimes (at least the agreement withmy airline) requires the ZED tcket to specify the exact city pair. Be sure to read your agreement carefully! AA should be more general, but I would check with them before you leave.

Do your homework before you leaveso you know all the logical flights and connections, then purchase ZED tickets to cover them. Might cost a bit more, but you could always use the LHR-ORD coupon to get back to the US, then a Zone 2 or 3 coupon to get home if need be.

There's a big difference between the physical capacity of a plane (i.e. the amount of seats in a fixed cabin) and the virtual/sales capacity.

It all depends on where your demand is being forecasted... if BA anticipates a high demand for WT+ fares (f.e. around 1,000-1,500 GBP return to the States), they'll increase the virtual capacity in WT+ and take virtual capacity from Club World. At the end you have a positive revenue picture, as you can continue to sell fares where your demand is located. If they'd just stop selling WT+ fares because the cabin is full, they would miss a lot of revenue because on this particular flight BA does not anticipate a lot of demand in Club World (so people would stop booking). At the end, people are just being upgraded to CW at check-in level once all seats in WT+ have been taken.

Sometimes, airlines also link the availabity between different products if you can change the physical capacity on board. For example: a BA flight operated by an A319 from LHR to GOT has 8 seats left for sale. BA can link the availability in the Economy cabin to the availability in Business, and offer 8 seats for sale in both cabins. Of course, once a seat is taken in a certain cabin, the availability will also go down by 1 seat in the other cabin. It is not because you see 8 seats available in Economy and 8 seats in Business that there are 16 seats left on the flight.

Everything depends on where your demand is forecasted. Based on your demand, you'll get an availability in the system that is expected to bring each airline the highest achievable revenue solution.

Moral of the story: GDS availability per booking class is only an indication on whether a flight is full or not. Some flights are wide open in all classes even though they're overbooked in reality, while other flights could be closed up to the most expensive classes (Y/C) and have a loadfactor of 20%.
