So a friend called me because she's organizing a trip for her mother and a friend of hers to New Zealand. The budget for the flight is about US$1350-1400 including taxes.

Can anyone help in finding a routing that fits in this price range? Departure should be ZRH or MXP (or anything nearby), destination AKL or any other airport in New Zealand. Creative routings are OK.

Thank you in advance.

hard to give you advice when you havent said what time of year they want to travel , but for starters I would look at SQ or TG . EK often have good fares as well , but be aware that all their flights to New Zealand transit Australia and some nationalities require transit visas even for same aircraft transit through Australia . If they have never travelled long haul before then I would recommend that they consider breaking the journey in each direction , even just for one night - often cheap deals can be found in SIN or BKK

edited to add :

PS both SQ and EK fly into both AKL and CHC .

If they want to travel around New Zealand sightseeing an open jaw itinerary can avoid the need to waste time and money getting back to original point of entry . Dont be fooled by the fact that on a map New Zealand looks tiny compared to its giant neighbour , it is a long thin country .

Oops, sorry about that - it would be in January 2010 for about 3 weeks, dates are flexible. I've tried EK but they're closer to $1800... I'll look at SQ and TG.

be aware that Jan is the height of summer in New Zealand , so for most airlines ex Europe that means high season fares , the schools/ universities are all on holiday for the whole of January ,many New Zealanders are travelling as well and flights are often heavily booked months out .

Ah, so that's the key - thanks, hadn't thought about this! I'm now having them re-schedule the vacation to february-march, it's much cheaper then (around $1500).

Why don't you try some fare search engines like onetravel.com sidestep.com?

I found some fares there just slightly higher than your budget 1500 range rt.

If you can get a flight to Vienna I can find you an option from

VIE - TPE - BNE return for 1,400.64 USD on BR i'm sure you can get cheapish flights from OOL or BNE to AKL that's in January

If you can go from say end of feb until March I could find

€1,183.70 from ZRH - ICN - AKL on KE.

Best I have found was EK from Jan 6 to Jan 27 for EUR 1179.89 from MXP to CHC on emirates.com. The dollar rates are not in your favor, I fear...

WARNING! The post above should be taken with a grain of salt! Furthermore, it may be slightly biased towards A.

Hey Manuel,

how about they get a cheap ticket to LHR and fly LHR to AKL with Royal Brunei. Just went on Royal Brunei's UK site and entered 10.01.10 as departure and 30.01.10 as return date and got a fare incl. all taxes of 783.10 GBP (approx. US$ 1,250.00) per person return in economy. How does that sound ?

Cheers from Brisbane,

Peter
