If I were lucky enough to have a choice like that, the YAK-40! I think it's just a little more special then the -134 (Not that I'd ever turn one of those down if I had the chance) It helps that I've never flown on a tri-jet before!


Nothing's worse then flying the same registration twice, except flying it 4 times..

Personally, I'd say try and fly with both, even if it means making a longer trip. Both are incredibly rare and will only get rares now that a whole bunch of modern Boeings and Airbusses have been parked up due to the recession. When I flew this back in Winter 2007 the airfare was about 22 GBP including all taxes each way, only back then it was the 727 as the Yak 40 just did Latakia and the Tu134 another destination which was completely unpublished, or I would have flown that too.

Thank you for your advice, i have been looking at fitting both into my tight schedule, it would have to be a return flight to Damascus (as all domestic flights appear to start and terminate here) and then a single to Aleppo, which is where i ultimately need to be. Whether that means doing 3 legs on 1 city pair, or a return to somewhere else and then a single to Aleppo, i will have to see. The prices are very reasonable, it should cost about 75 pounds at the most to fly all 3 legs. I am deffinately considering it.
I shall book once i recieve my passport from the Syrian Embassy next week if my visa is approved.

Ammo, I would say go for the 40. There are a lot less of them flying. But hey, if it's a round trip do both. Have a nice trip!

I've been to DAM a few times but have never flown the RB Tu-134 or YAK-40. I really must do this before it is too late.

Given the choice between the two types I would try the YAK-40. It is a lot rarer in pax service than the larger YAK-42, and Tu-134.

I have costed the flights- for 3 domestic legs it will cost approximately 60 pounds- excellent value.

If I had a choice of flying only Yak-40 or Tu-134, I would definetly go for Yak, as it is rare these days and more attractive then Tu-134. Very small trijet!

Thanks for all the reponses, I have another query regarding airport departure taxes, there is nowhere online that will confirm the tax and i have conflicting links saying it was abolished and included in the ticket price as of June.

I am left baffled, can anyone clarify with updated info?

Both the 727 & 747 have been retired by RB. The 2 747s were parked outside the RB Hangars when I was there in May along with the many 727s & Tu-154s. I don't think the 727s will fly again but there is talk of the 747s possibly re-rentering service if the parts can be acquired.

Does Syrian Air still operate the Yak 40 and the Tu 134 between DAM and ALP? In Amadeus all flights only show up with the 320. Does anyone have a current timetable available?
