Who Should I Fly? BA Or VS?

I am planning a trip for my family and I to California. I plan to depart from Belfast (BHD/BFS) and arrive in LAX. I looked up many airlines such as CO and even EI & US from DUB but I found that the best prices where with BA and VS from BFS-LHR-LAX ,BHD-LHR-LAX
respectively. I was wondering who, based on comfort and in-flight entertainment and reliability who should I fly?

Many thanks

VS, all the way. If you are flying economy (which I assume you are) VS is far supirior. they have a good IFE, and the food is better than BA. you can also go prem. economy, which has more legroom. I say go VS.

I'm 99.999 percent sure.

Hi there

No they don’t.

Three B744’s are fitted with Odyssey and another five are fitted with a IFE system called Super Nova – neither system is AVOD – so be warned.

Your best bet for looking at flight with Virgin Atlantic is www.v-flyer.com is like the bible for Virgin Atlantic Airways – and all the information is normally bang up to date.

and the food is better than BA

Having served on both airlines I would say the product is better on Virgin Atlantic – however there is great variations of the quality of food served on VS flights (outside Upper) and I have always found BA’s food to be better.

When you start looking down to things like the upkeep of aircraft they are all the same, both airlines are clean etc. I would say that BA crew are more professional and helpful when you take everything into account.

Also, if you need help while in American, British Airways US call centre is great – while Virgin’s are not that helpful – but the chances of you needing to contact them are slim (I would hope).

As for the seats, its economy! You can find worn seats on both airlines from time to time… I must say I find as a whole BA tend to update / change their seat cushions more often than VS and the space allocated is officially the same. With VS be warned of the IFE box that can take away legroom.

All in all, I would go for Virgin, but if you’re flying on a B744 there is not guarantee you will have a AVOD IFE system.

Kimberly.

Thanks a lot for that Kimberly, the specific flight is operated by a B744 so I dont know for sure what to do. I will check my options again!

Thanks

Good to hear from you Loughrey1, I am also a BFS/BHD local, and have made this routing with both carriers, the most recent being this month (September). Having used both within 12 months of each other, I would recommend BA over VS - the trip in September was with VS, and the AVOD v:Port kept crashing and rebooting (was out of service for about 2 hours flying), and there was a 90 mins delay onboard before push back. BA on the other hand, I felt the AVOD was better, food and wine was better, and T5 (which i have yet to experience) gets some of the best reviews for a terminal. If you are a member of a frequent flier club however, the experience overall with both carries is good, and perhaps if miles are important to you, I would suggest the carrier that you will earn miles on.

Never had a bad experience with VS.
I notice you will be flying from LHR which means you will 99% be guaranteed a 747 with Avod as the non Avod planes are used from LGW and MAN.
I have had V:Port crash on me once, but ti took under 10 minutes to reboot. V:Port IMO is the best entertainment system Ive ever had the pleasure of suing and really does kill the hours on a long flight.
My most recent trip was documented and is in the trip reports forum (if you search my name and that forum I am sure you can find it), and perhaps that will help you make your decision.

That said, if BA is cheaper, then take them, with all the cost cuttings and whats not, there's not as much difference nowadays (except VS allowing you to choose seats on booking)

Kev.
