This is a followon from a previous post.

On 01 JAN I need to travel SJULAX on DL and I wont fly in Coach. I did this same journey this year in April during the easter period and paid $399 one way in First Class/Business Class.
For 01 JAN they are asking $1100 USD for the same fare. Delta are dreaming if Im gunna pay that...
what I want to know from anyone at DL or in the know is when will DL start to release seats in A or I class... mind you after checking amadeus they have also embargoed all discount fares in Y class too ..... only Y B and M are available and most flights have Y only.

I know for a fact that easter is a very busy time to travel to the Caribbean more so that the Christmas/NY period so I dont understand why the fares are soo expensive.

I emailed Delta customer relations and this is what I got back... The question I asked is "when will Delta start releasing seats in A and I class".... the response completely missed the mark .., what do I do now ?

Dear Mr xxxxx

Thank you for your e-mail to Delta Air Lines.

We are glad to be able to offer you the option of selecting specific
flights for your travel.

Airfares and flight availability constantly change - sometimes minute by
minute. Because of this constant change, it is not possible for us to
quote fares or to book or change flights (paid or SkyMiles) through
e-mail. For the most up-to-date and accurate fare information, please
visit our website at delta.com.

When trying to book flights on delta.com, please select the option
?First/Business? located in the Cabin dropdown list.

For additional assistance, please contact our 24-hour Online Customer
Support Desk at 888-750-3284. A representative will be glad to assist
you.

It's just too far in advance.

Since there is no chance you will "miss" the fare you are currently offered by waiting (unless the flight completely sells out), you have no reason to book now. Just wait and see.

Keep in mind two things. DL, one of 4 other airlines, just last week announced a $10 "surcharge" for all fares and flights for travel during the US holiday period including Jan 1, 2010. Demand for travel will be higher as Jan 1 falls on a Friday so holiday travel will extend through that weekend.
It has also been announced that fares generally during the holidays that include Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's willl be higher this year due to demand and cuts in capacity.
Travel to SJU is traditionally very heavy during these holiday periods - visiting family and friends is a huge market in itself, holiday vacations for a warm weather vacation, and high volume and high demand for the cruise market sailing from SJU.
DL rarely "gives away" premium capacity so there is a good chance the fares you see may hold. SkyMiles awards will likely be limited but you can book a revenue seat and use miles to reduce the fare, so again DL will likely not reduce fares as the seats will sell.
Easter travel is high demand but is concentrated in a smaller travel window than the period that encompasses Christmas and New Year's; hence, fares during this period will remain at higher levels for a longer period of time.
AA also implemented the Jan 1 surcharge so likely no discounts from them either later on.
Keep an eye on the DL fares but you should book something by the end of October if your plans for travel on Jan 1 are firm, and consider an alternate airline if you find any cheap F seats now.
Good Luck,
Thomas

Christmas time is a very busy season for air travel to the Caribbean - between a lot more time to visit friends/relatives, you also have vacationers from the north that wouldn't mind a week's respite from the cold. Simply put, there's a lot more demand to the Caribbean at Christmas than there is at Easter (a short holiday where not nearly as many people will travel as they would at Christmas).

If you don't like Delta's strategy, then there are plenty of other airlines out there to fly.

And consumers wonder why they don't get free meals, free bags, and why the airlines are hurting so badly  sarcastic   no

NEWS UPDATE

Delta have dropped prices for these dates only to $919 each way from $1100 but atleast there is movement on the price front. Fingers crossed they will drop to more realistic levels.
