Heathrow Connect Trains For Terminal 4

Hello all,

I am traveling YYZ - BOM via LHR. After Oct 14, 9W is scheduled to move to T4 and AC operates out of T3. BAA's website states that trains between Heathrow Central and T4 run every 15 minutes and it is a 3 minute ride. I wanted to know how reliable the service is and if I might experience any lengthy delays. The time between my connections is an hour and a half. I am hoping this should be enough for making the connection.

Any information/tip is appreciated.

90 minutes for a terminal-to-terminal transfer at Heathrow is insane to think about. To get on Heathrow Connect, you'd have to clear customs, which is hit-or-miss during the time of day. Add in getting to the train, clearing T3 security, etc. and it's not looking good. 90 minutes at Heathrow for ANY international-to-international long-haul connection is pushing it if it's BA and all in T5; inter-terminal is just out of this world. I'd get on the phone and make some calls to get a longer connection in LHR ASAP.

Thanks for the info DeltAirlines. I had booked the tickets in advance and I had no idea 9W was going to be moving to T4. Earlier they were at T2 and I was able to make the connection at T3 as you can just walk between terminals 1, 2 & 3.

Whoa ... I had no idea. But why should I have to clear customs if I am not entering the country? Also, previously when I traveled with 9W and AC my baggage was checked in all the way to YYZ.

I don't understand why they would move airlines that are code shared to different terminals.

Edit:

Though the BAA website says that the frequency is every 15 minutes the Heathrow Connect timetable on their website shows a frequency of 30 minutes. What gives?

The only way to get to Heathrow Connect is through the public side of the airport, which would require clearing customs. Given that those Heathrow Connect trains go straight to Paddington, there'd be nothing to stop you from staying in England. Your bags should be able to go all the way to YYZ.

There should be a connections bus that would be available to you, where you would not take Heathrow Connect and you would not clear customs/immigration. When you get off the plane, you'd follow the signs for flight connections, which should take you to a bus to T3, then clear security. That would be a lot faster than dealing with the train, but it could still be dicey if the bus is running slower than advertised, as well as length of queue to clear security.

Min connect time is 90 minutes, but I'd still recommend trying to get 2 hours. Are you on separate tickets? If so, then even a slight delay inbound to Heathrow could cause you all sorts of trouble.

Aah ... now it all makes sense. Thanks a lot for that link. I completely overlooked that connecting passengers can bus it between terminals. It's a relief that I don't have to take the Heathrow Connect.

The ticket is sold by 9W, so it is just one itinerary. Hopefully it would not be so bad. Thanks for all the info DeltAirlines. Much appreciated.

This will be fine for a connecting ticket all on one itinenary... i have done this before. Besides, if there is a problem, the airline will sort it out for you.
