With today's announcement of yet another delay in the 748 program, I thought it might be interesting to have yet another thread to capture our guesses about the exact date for the first flights of both the 787 and the 748. The dates should be based on local time at PAE.

I was over in SEA on June 23rd when they announced the wing box issues. I looked forward to going up to PEA to spot it, but that went down the drain...
787:
West Wing: 17-Dec-2009 (anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight)
TGIF: 24-Feb-2010
748:
West Wing: 09-Feb-2010 (anniversary of the 747-100 first flight)
TGIF: 03-Mar-2010 (one week after the 787. They won't let the 748 in the air before the 787)

Quoting DocLightning (Reply 3): I think it was a good year ago I made this prediction and I'm sticking with it. I think it will be early 1Q2010. I think 4Q2009 is just too ambitious.
While I do hope the 787 will fly before the year end, it is looking a bit bleak. Since Boeing have not yet announced a firm target date, your prediction is likely to be accurate. Of course, in the months after the first flight Boeing may face more challenges during the test phase than they have estimated. But at least getting the aircraft airborne would be a huge milestone, and a much needed confidence boost for Boeing.

So I may be optimistic, or pessimistic as some may say, I guess those are the best I can come up with.

Here is a consolidated summary of the guesses so far. The speculation for the 787 is that the first flight target date is "just before Christmas", so KPHXFlyer may have the closest 787 guess.
