Hi everyone

I'm travelling AMS-BKK-TPE with CI on 21/10 and back again on 01/11 and was wondering what their Y-class service / IFE is like on the 744.

I've had a look at Skytrax, but would appreciate any extra input the a-net community can contribute!

Thanks in advance

P.S. Will definitely add a detailed trip report as a I know China Airlines TRs are few and far between!

It depends on which aircraft you get. The planned refurbs haven't happened due to financial constraints.

Service should be good, at least it has been the few times I've flown CI.

I can't really comment on IFE, but on AMS - BKK - TPE, you'll probably get one of the older birds that have the ceiling-mounted screens and very basic IFE.

I'm tired of the A vs. B sniping. Neither make planes that shed wings randomly!

as a general rule only the 744s used on TPE-LAX have PTVs in Y

their cabin service is very good

I'm flying HNL-TPE-BKK and then BKK-TPE-NRT-HNL in a couple of weeks. All flights except the outbound HNL-TPE leg are on a 744 so I'll let you know!

Well.... CI doesn't really have much in the way of hard product unless you're flying between LAX and TPE as far as 744s go. You'll need to bring your own entertainment. But their service is always awesome. They (like everyone else) have somewhat been cutting back on some parts (no more slippers and smaller meal portions), but you can still get instant noodles whenever you're hungry. And I rather do like CI's instant noodles.

This is my signature.

Correct...flew AMS-BKK on CI (B-18206) on 24jul09, so quite recent: ceiling mounted screens, so if near the screens, be prepared for a stiff neck

Catering was quite good IMHO; also, noticable was that f/a's checked the toilets quite regularly (to keep it clean/fresh smelling)...

All in all: can recommend this airline for your AMS-BKK trip !!!

Thanks for the replies - looks like it'll be good service. Shame about the IFE but for the price I'm paying I don't mind taking my ipod and a couple of books!
