This a question I know I should be able to answer, but I've never paid attention to the land portion of my IAD trips...

I'll be returning a rental car to IAD and I want to put gas in it before I return it. If I take the airport access part of the Dulles Toll Road, will I have access to a gas station once I get to Dulles? Or should I just bite the bullet, pay the toll, and use one of the 'normal' exits once I get out there? At most airports, this isn't an Issue, but IAD is a bit different. Thanks for your help.

IIRC there is an Exxon station on Autopilot Drive (same road as the car rental agencies). I filled up at another gas station, close to Dulles, but I can't recall its exact location right now.

Keep well,

Technically the gas station is on "Rudder Road" just before it meets "Autopilot Drive". The gas station is next to the common EXIT of the Blue/Green/Gold satellite parking lots. So from the Dulles access road if you take the exit for and follow sings for rental car return (or for entrance to the BLUE economy/satellite parking) you will see the gas station on your right. It is definitely more convenient to use this gas station to fill up before returning your car instead of getting off on the toll road on your way to the airport.

No question about that; being able to go straight in to Dulles in the Dulles lanes makes the drive almost bearable.

If only Chicago would copy the concept for ORD...
