Check In Question For Upcoming Flight

OK, I will be flying LH back to Germany this February, one of the options I mentioned in an earlier thread a few months ago. I will first take MX 378 SJO-MEX, then LH 499 MEX-FRA and LH 18 FRA-HAM. My mother says that from the MX counter at SJO, I can check my bags all the way to HAM and get my boarding passes for all three segments. My concern is that otherwise, and with only 1:40 connection time at MEX, I wouldn't have enough time to make it to my flight. Could anyone confirm? I also wonder if it makes a difference that I'm using an E-Ticket instead of a normal paper ticket.

On an additional note, how quick is the citizen's line for passport control in FRA? Is there a specific one for citizens, or do I just have to take the passport control line for people with EU passports? It's because my connection time is 1:30 in FRA. Sorry for the questions, but it's my first time flying alone and the first time using both MEX and FRA. On the bright side, I'll be flying an Airbus for the first time, and a 747. Too bad the 747 doesn't have AVOD nor PTVs, but I don't really mind that.

Take any of the "EU Citizens"-lines / counters.
Should not take more than 5 minutes absolute maximum to clear immigration.

Sounds great. One other thing: Do you think it's a good idea to eventually register for the automated passport control that is being introduced in FRA and MUC, the one where you pass your passport through a reader, an automatic background check is performed with the computer of the Bundespolizei, and then have the retina scanned?

IIRC, you first need no show up in person in an office at FRA (not sure about MUC), so this only is useful if you will use FRA (and MUC ?) on flights connecting between Schengen and non-Schengen countries.
Remember: There is no passport control on flights between Schengen countries (incl. the North European equivilant), which in western Europe only excludes the U.K. and Ireland (and the likes of Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Gibraltar).

It surely will not be an option to use on your transfer in February.

Might be a "nice to have"-thing, but usually lines at inbound and outbound immigration for EU-citizens is short to non-existant.
The gain in time will be less than a 1-5 minutes.

There should be no problem to check the luggage trough all the way to HAM.
With Boarding Passes the story might be different. Form time to time it seems to be a problem to get a BP for the last sector for various reasons, but then there are times where everything works perfect.
If you will not get issued the BP for your FRA to HAM sector, just head for any LH-Transfer Desk (but stay on the sterile side of the airport) and get your BP issued.
If for any reason you find yourself on the public side at FRA w/o a BP, head for Hall A (not Concourse A) of Terminal 1. Face the big Departure Billboard. Unter the righthand corner of it (to the left of the normal Eco-Class Check-in line) there is a seperate line for transfer pax (at least it used to be).

With an E-ticket you can TRY to check-in online and print all your BP's. If this works from your departure airport I am not too sure. Check LH's website ...

Thanks! I hope things will go smoothly with that, and hopefully I'll get all three BPs, though my mother did mention something similar about the boarding pass for the final sector. Again, this is my first time flying alone, and another of my concerns is to get a window seat in all three sectors (despite my current nervousness of flying, which I hope goes away after takeoff).

I've booked through a travel agency, so it's likely that I'll have to go to the counter for check-in. Plus SJO isn't exactly easy to book online from in general, so I'll stay safe and hit the counter for the whole procedure, then look for the airside transfer desk at FRA in case I do not get the third BP, as you said (though if I do have to go landside, I hope the 1:30 connection time will be enough to go to the counter and then back through security).

There's just one outstanding issue about getting my Macbook, along with software and accessories for it (including a legit copy of Windows 7) through customs (same with my iPod and its accessories), but I sent an e-mail to customs on the matter and I'm awaiting an eventual response. I hope I don't have to declare them as imported goods because I'll take them in my backpack as carry-on, but I'll try to find and then take the receipts for them just in case.

That leaves me with another question: Where exactly do I go through customs? Do I have to go through customs in FRA or in HAM? It's already bad enough that I may have to pay customs for my stuff, considering that I'm a dual citizen and the people at customs can not only give me problems for that (which is why I won't mention that fact), but even if I do have the possibility of registering everything as "Übersiedlungsgut", how do I prove that I lived in Costa Rica for over 12 years? Costa Rica doesn't have address registration like in Germany, I can't put a street address on the form (because street addresses don't exist in Costa Rica, neither do real postal codes), plus I doubt that they accept my old expired passports for this, even though I had them issued in Costa Rica at the embassy.
