Well JL and ANA use beach market aircraft on those routes which can be very cramped. NW flies the A330 (I think it will still be an A330 in April) otherwise its a 744. I loved NW A330's prior to the merger so I would certainly recommend them.

I think the NW/DL A330s are quite comfortable in coach, and the forward coach cabin also has power outlets which is great if you have a laptop with entertainment on it. Seats are slightly firm, but not too bad.

NW A330 would be good with AVOD throughout, and I believe one of the two NRT-HNL flights will still be an A330 when April rolls around. The forward coach cabin is my favorite as long as looking out a window isn't important. That section has the power ports and might have slightly larger pitch as well. It's a nice ride.
Of course if I was making the decision I would give that all up for a 747 without IFE, but that's just me.
