Hey everyone I am hoping I can get some help. I am flying BA BOS-LHR-BCN and then a few months later BCN-LHR-MIA.
I have decided to pay the money for the long haul flights to not even take the risk of getting stuck in a middle row. I am looking at getting a widow seat for both flights. For people who have experience on the planes.
For BOS-LHR it is a 772 4 class I was looking at row 39 A or K seat guru says the curvature of the plane is bothersome to most is it really that bad? Also how is the window alignment?
For LHR-MIA on a 744 I was looking at 51 and 52 B or K with the extra room what is there to my left or right? Is there a widow there? It seems like a weird seat with that empty space next to it. Also the BA seat map is showing extra leg 40 H,J,K but seat guru is not. Any information on that?
Also I was surprised a mainline, flag carrier like BA ask to pay for seat selection  Sad

Thanks for the help!

as far as I remember, row 46 is the best one in the economy class, its the front row in the last section of the plane with the wall in front of you and enough room for your legs.

I am sharing your opinion on that.

Steven:
Also consult "seatexpert.com". It has some dynamic comments on seat rows for the 744 and 772 aircraft in BA's fleet. Note that rows that lack windows are coded by a "red" window. I didn't review all the layouts but think this additional website may be useful to you.
BA just implemented the pay for advance seat selection option recently. Good source for additional revenue as policy has been seats are available only for selection using the BA website within 24 hours of flight time. Only exception has been/is if you purchase full fare tickets.
I believe the seat fees are $30USD per person per flight for Y class.
I flew BA in May and although they had pre-assigned seats for me when I went in on the website, numerous seats remained open. Not sure that will be the case since this "pay" option has been added so maybe a BA person can comment how much response and $$$ the program has generated.
I was very impressed with BA's service on my flights. I hope you enjoy the ride with them.

I've been back there on a NW 744, and they became my favorite economy seats on any plane. I assume it would be about the same on BA, although BA has one less two-fer row than NW, so this may not be 100% precise. There's some pros and cons, but I think the pros outway the cons by a wide margin.

Room - Row 51 would probably have about a foot, give or take, of space between the seat and wall. Row 52 would have less, but both rows would likely have lots of room to stretch out your legs and/or hold some of your stuff when in cruise (small bag, pillow, blanket, etc). Overall it's a very roomy seat with great privacy.

Windows - In row 51 or 52, my bet that you would be able to see out of at least 4 windows at the same time, if they're open. Maybe you'd even get a peak through a 5th, which was the case for one of my NW flights. When you can see through so many windows at once, it doesn't feel like an airplane. It's so cool. However, you probably wouldn't be able to lean against the window comfortably in either row to sleep, and you'd have to lean over a bit to see down (row 51 would require more lean). But you can do it, and the view down is wide and unobstructed. One more neat thing is that it's possible to see your own contrail and the plane's horizontal stabilizer from these seats. The overall view is fantastic.

Logistics - If the BA seats are like NW, you'd lose a some underseat storage in row 52. However I got by, even though I use a lot of underseat storage space. Row 51 would likely have extra underseat space though. Having only one person to crawl over to get out is not bad. The very back of the plane does bump around more than other areas, so that can be a big minus depending on if you can tolerate turbulence well. And even though there's more room to your side, it still doesn't change the seat pitch if you're tall. Hope that helps.

So whether or not those are the best seats for you is your decision, but don't be afraid of the "strange" 8-seat rows. I was worried about what I would get before my flights, but I came away delighted. I'd go right back there if I had the chance.

Well I picked my seats. Thanks for the help everyone.
On the 777 I chose a normal window seat 35A seat experts says it has a great veiw and since BOS-LHR is not very long and "overnight" i do not plan on getting out of the seat more then once anyway.

For LHR-MIA a much longer flight I took the back of the 744 row 52B. Thanks for the info it sounds like a good seat. I took a look at some pics on Anet too and it looks fine and since it is a longer flight I like the extra space and only one person next to me. Also its a day light flight so I do not plan on sleeping most of the way unlike BOS-LHR.

Thanks for the help.

Dont know why some of you are upset about the seat charges.

A few months ago you could not select any seat until it was open for online check in! This way you can book in advance OR wait until the online check in opens.

Recession busting! LOL!

I understand that, I was just surprised that it was not available at no cost when I purchased the ticket like most Mainline airlines. But hey what ever they have to do to make money and keep flying. I don't mind the cost too much as long as my flight is good.
