Just bored at work tonight, and wanted to come up with the most expensive one-way fare possible. My parameter is that the origin and destination can't be the same ( no round the world fares ).
I came up with EK's LAX-DXB-SYD, in First at $ 26,851.10 USD.

Wow! That's a lot. What cabin/class is it in? I know F/J fares can be ridiculous. E.g., for NYC-ROC on US, if you go via PHL, CLT, DCA, or BOS, you can possibly get mainline for (at least) one of the legs, and thus a F cabin; while with the stop somewhere it would cost around $100-150 (one-way, depending on the route; the direct on Express from LGA is anywhere from $44-89 on average), I've seen over $1,000 for when you're booked in F. Prices are also much more for refundable and flexible fares.

I take my hat off to your searching after about 30 mins of scouring EK, QF and BA websites for long distance, multiple stop First class fares the most expensive flight I could come up with was:
EK is JFK-DXB-BKK-SYD in First class $12,367 (flying sometime in mid Feb)

How about the most expensive coach fare, not counting unrealistic itineraries? I'd be expecting to pay at least a couple of thousand for something like LAX-JNB.
