Dear all
As part of the valentine's celebration with my girlfriend, we are going to Basel for a long weekend in February.
We have been looking on www.swiss.com and found a rather funny itinerary, we will be flying economy from MAN to ZRH, arriving there at 11:40, then conenct onto a Rail service departing at 13:04 to Basel, arriving there at 14:23.
May I ask how the train service in Switzerland is like? I look forward to getting on a train outside of United Kingdom and feel very excitied about this!
On the return, we will be flying on business from BSL to MAN, it will be a RJ100, we have been on one of those plane, despite in economy. However we would like to know, as its a 2 hour flight, will there be a hot meal or cold meal? Also, any information on BSL's lounge will be highly appreciated, is the lounge highly recommended? We are on a business saver fare.
Thank you in advance for all the information, I hope our first time entering Switzerland will be great (we have transitted in ZRH before)

I know, from the time I worked for Swiss handling agent in BRU, that the train connections at ZRH are very smooth. You just have to follow the railway signs at the airport after taking your luggage.
About railway quality itself, don't know much, but heard nothing but good comments on it.
You can check train information (and find the exact same train) on www.sbb.ch

Thank you for all your replies!
May I also ask, is it possible that we take some other trains from ZRH to Basel train station, for example, if we arrive early and it has been possible to take another train? I would fancy taking the ICN and TGV, if it is allowed to do so. When I try to book the train tickets on www.sbb.ch, the price is the same.

Yes, if you have an LX ticket that include the train between Basel and Zurich Airport, you can take any train that day, both the hourly direct train to/from Zurich Airport, and the many other trains that require a connection at the main station in Zurich. If you have a business class ticket you travel in first class on the train.
Quoting Musapapaya (Thread starter): Also, any information on BSL's lounge will be highly appreciated,
LX has a very large lounge at BSL airport. It was part of the major expansion of the terminal when LX still had the hub operation at BSL inherited from regional carrier Crossair, on which the new carrier Swiss was built when Swissair went bankrupt. However, to cut major losses, LX then shut down the BSL hub as they couldn't justify two hubs at ZRH and BSL which are only about 60 miles apart. Since then LX has only been operating relatively few point-to-point services at BSL. So the lounge is much larger than they need now but it's still open. It's often almost deserted but it's worth visiting. It is circular and has large windows all around overlooking the airport. People visitng the lounge now must wonder why it's so big considering how flew flights LX now has there.
