57 Minute Connection At ATL Manageable?

Hello everyone,

I haven't traveled with DL much in the past, so I'm uncertain of the statistics of their delays and what not...

I have to fly from DAB to ATL, connecting to CCS on a short 57 minute layover.

This is the flight information:

Delta 5234 Daytona Beach (DAB) 2:59pm Atlanta (ATL) 4:28pm Canadair Regional Jet 700

(57 min layover)

Delta 193 Atlanta (ATL) 5:25pm Caracas (CCS) 10:11pm Boeing 767-400

Last time I flew with them, it was prefectly fine, but the layover was of almost 3 hours. I had to change one terminal and it wasn't a problem for me. However, knowing ATL worries me a bit, since we may be stranded in a taxiway for hours, or even perhaps held in a holding pattern for 45 minutes, like it happened to me once in the past...

What do you think? Should I take this flight coming out of DAB or take an earlier one (putting me in a 3hr layover?)

Thanks in advance!

ONLINE: ATL 040min Domestic to International

Personally I would choose a longer layover in ATL. Have a great trip.

57 minutes is more than enough time to make that connection outbound at ATL, if all goes to plan (there even is margin for inbound delay).

OTOH, I likely would go for that earlier flight out of DAB and spend the time at ATL having lunch before flying to CCS, if the fare is not considerably higher.

I'd take the earlier flight. Flights out of DAB are notorious for being delayed, and that would likely put a damper on your day. I've done 45 minute connections in Atlanta, but its tough if you have to transfer from one end of a concourse to the other end of another.

I also would go for the earlier flight. I once had a tight connection at ATL (30-45 minutes if memory serves me right), and I didn't make it. Everything was on time until we had to wait a while on the ground after landing, and by the time I moved over a concourse or two it was too late. I had to watch my plane back away from the gate. But in that case FL had another flight to FLL in about an hour. You won't have that second option. It doesn't take much at ATL to eat up time.

I was once flying to Acapulco, Mexico, from New York City. We were taking AA from LGA to ATL and then DL from there to ACA.

All in all, we made a 27-minute, international, multi-airline connection without a problem. So did our checked luggage

Shame you couldn't be at ATL longer, I really like that airport!

I think it's a lottery!

I'll take the early flight, then!

Thanks for the help everyone!
