So hopefully someone can reassure me that this will be ok, I thought a 3hr connection would be plenty at LAX, but reading up has me worried and since I don't want to worry the whole trip, thoughts please:

I will be arriving at LAX at 7:30am on a Sunday in April from Auckland. I assume alot of the Asia flight arrive this time?

For that flight, I'll be checking in with JetStar in Wellington, and connecting in Auckland to a Qantas flight on one ticket. I spoke to Qantas, who told me my bag will be checked through to LAX, and I will have to get a boarding pass in Auckland.

I arrive scheduled at 7:30am in LAX and then have a 10:40am Virgin America flight LAX-JFK. So...

1. I assume JetStar will not check my bags through to JFK? It is a separate reservation. If they do, would the bag actually make it?
2. Is that 3 hours enough time to clear customs, immigration, transfer terminals, check-in, clear security, etc?
3. How bad should I expect this to be?

Also, on a side note. Coming in I am flying JFK-LAX-SYD on AA then Qantas. Is the AA terminal connected to TBIT? I also assume AA will issue me boarding passes and tag bag through to SYD?

Thanks in advance for any help, tips.

Brian

Even if your bag was through checked you would still have to claim it to clear customs and recheck it anyways. That being said, for the connection you described, three hours should be plenty. Your Virgin America flight is out of Terminal 3, which is an easy walk from TBIT where your Qantas flight will let you off at. The one thing I don't know is how bad TSA in Terminal 3 is, but I believe everyone but AS and VX has moved elsewhere in the airport, so that should help you out. And I don't think Customs will be too bad at that hour of the morning. It might be a big Asian arrival push, but many of the Asian Arrivals arrive at other terminals in the airport, so Customs shouldn't be tied up too much.

This will be much easier. AA should not only be able to issue you a boarding pass for SYD, but they should be able to check your bags all the way as well. AA is at Terminal 4, which is also adjacent to the TBIT on the other side from Terminal 3, and a short walk as well. I do believe that there is no airside link between the two, so you will have to clear TSA again in LAX.

Hope this helps.
