Hi all,

Planning to use EK for SFO-BOM and looking for a bit of clarification re: business class offerings across the fleet. Seems Emirates has no shortage of J products (sidenote: why is this?)

SFO-DXB is via 772...I'm expecting something akin to UA's F on PS flights. Terrific seats for 5hr transcon flights, but I'm quite surprised that an airline of EK's reputation would offer anything less than fully flat for 16hrs in J.

DXB-BOM-DXB is via 345, 773 or 332. This is where I could use some advice: are J offerings specific to a/c type or airframe? i.e., if EK is in the process of upgrading J seats across multiple a/c types, this seat game might be a crapshoot at best. Not overly concerned by the prospect of getting stuck in an old seat for a 3hr flight (DXB-BOM), but it would also be nice to know what I'm in for. Or maybe I should go with instinct and just book QR. What's another connection, anyway?

Thanks much,

ts

I love America. I guess that makes me Bush's poodle, but I'd rather be a dog in New York City than a prince in Riyadh.

For this leg you will be on a 77L or a new 77W. I think this will be a lie flat bed as these aircraft are all fairly new.

Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

If there is QR from SFO take it or go SFO-IAD-DOH try not to connect in DXB to DOH
For my money you are better off with QR.
Have a great trip.

The connecting flight to BOM from SFO will be on teh EK 500/501 ( apparently the same rotation). This aircrafts is normally operated by the B77W with new seats as this is their "premium" flight to BOM. SFO - DXB is also a B77W I believe.

To get more details, EK's website is very helpful as they actually tell you what product is on offer the day you travel.

The 77L no longer flies this route as it has gone 77W which will feature lie flat beds in J with large HD IFE screens with over 1,200 channels on offer. United's F on PS is nothing compared to that. That's not even to say anything about our J catering which is miles above anything UA has to offer.

Looks like you would connect with the EK 500/501 rotation which will also be a 77W. The A345 have a pod type J class seating which is essentially a recliner encased in a pod. Avoid the 332 at all costs, it has a cramped 2-3-2 layout and rather flimsy seat and tray table design, though this is somewhat compensated by ample legroom.

Try Emirates out!

You won't regret it! The J seats used in the USA, BOM 777 flights are all fully-flat beds.
