Here is a question for you all. I am flying JFK to SFO on Thursday afternoon. I am a gold medallion and have been keeping an eye on the seatmaps. The platinum window had come and gone and the Biz cabin has not changed. Not just on my flight but on the later one as well. The gold window opens tomorrow and I am wondering what I will see. Is it the policy for these flights with the Biz product to only upgrade at the gate?

Pretty much - LAX-JFK and SFO-JFK over the past few months have become gate-only upgrades for X/V class (unless there's a very far-in-advanced swap to a 767-300ER).

Quoting sectflyer (Reply 2): How do you think my chances are as a gold on a T fare booked a month ago? 7 seats left on the 250 pm departure.
Could be a tough one. Good bit of paid F on there due to connections in from Europe, and there are likely to be a good number of Diamonds, Plats and Golds on higher fares on that flight as well since it's at a relatively busy time; not to mention, those 7 seats will probably sell a few more in the next month.
I'd look at doing a Same-Day Confirmed to another flight (or via another city) if you want to sit up front. Even there, SFO can be a tough market for even Plats to get upgrades.

Yeah i kind have resigned myself to Y and will be pleasantly surprised otherwise. The only thing I think might be in my favor is I bought the ticket over a month ago and they were still selling T up until a week ago. I got to do Biz to SFO over Christmas with miles and thought I would try it again. Probably should have used BDL! Will let you know how it went.

This could be a tough one. Last year, I did LAX-JFK-LAX-JFK-LAX-JFK.....and so on about 5 times. As a Gold purchasing the cheapest fare (average was around $198.00 each trip) I was upgraded on every sector. Fortunately, one of the flights was upgraded to a 763 but even then a few seats went unfilled up front.
Recently, however, I have noticed that when searching for availability on these routes (yes, I do this for fun) that it hardly ever shows that an upgrade is available. When looking on the seat maps, you will see 14 or 12 seats unfilled. So, I am not sure what that means. Just last week, I was at JFK for quite some time with a layover and I noticed that on one flight the upgrade list was two pages long. On another flight, the upgrade list was short and all requests were accepted......Good luck either way, hope you get it. I really enjoy the transcon on the 75E.

Thanks. And yeah it is over 1 day into the gold upgrade window and no one had been upgraded yet. This is my first time trying for the upgrade as a gold. I was a silver for 2 years previous. So I still have that negative silver attitude I suppose! As a silver I was relay surprised at the amount that I did get upgraded. There are so many variables. I am just hoping that If ther are Elites above me they are traveling with companions which now knocks them back! I will let you know.
