In 3 weeks, I will be flying MSP-PDX-HNL and back. At this point, i have approximately 12,000 Skymiles in my account. I'd love to upgrade to F from MSP-PDX, but to be honest, I have no idea how many miles you need to upgrade from Y to F on a domestic ticket. I checked Delta's Skymile part and am still kind of confused. Also, how do you go about redeeming an upgrade? Can you upgrade online, or do you have to do it at the airport/on the phone? And BTW, my ticket is T. Thanks for your help!

Well, you have a very impossible task ahead of you. 12,000 miles will not get you anything here. From my experiences and understanding, anything under 20,000 does nothing for you. Your best bet would be to just pay the fee to upgrade, but you cannot do that on one sector. If you are booked all the way to HNL, the upgrade fee will take that into consideration. I do not know of anyway that you can do this using so few miles, especially with a low fare economy ticket (L, U, T). Have a great trip!

Here's a handy chart that lists all of the DL fare classes and whether they are eligible for upgrade(s).
Unfortunately, the only folks that get upgrades with the cheapest DL fares are Medallion level members. Even paid upgrades are not available for these fare classes.
