I thought I'd start a second version of this thread, after three carriers which I've flown (Varsity Express, Highland Airways and South Airlines) have disappeared during March alone. It's a morbid figure, but hopefully the tides will begin to turn soon.

Including those which have been renamed/merged/bought out:

Aeroflot Don
Air Comet
Air Wales
Air 2000
Airtours
Airworld
Alitalia (old)
Asian Spirit
BA Connect
Britannia Airways
Caledonian
Clickair
Denim Airways
EuroManx
European
Fly Globespan
GIR Jet
Highland Airways
Varsity Express
MyAir
Northwest Airlines
Oasis Hong Kong Airlines
SAS Braathens
Skyjet
South Airlines
Snowflake
ThomsonFly
Varig Brasil (old)
VLM Airlines
XL Airways

Apparantly so. AirEvents had arranged to charter their An-30 in a few weeks, but yesterday I received an email saying their AOC had been revoked and the An-30 at least put of for sale. Hopefully flying something like the An-28 instead now, but failing that there is still the An-74 flight going ahead as planned.

With a list like that I am surprised that you haven't been put on a 'no fly' list all of your own from airlines who don't want to disappear .

My defunct airline list is much longer than my list of airlines that still exist.   The latter total is 23 at a quick check.

I lived in Brasil in the late 70's. At the time, Varig, VASP, Cruzeiro and Trans Brasil were the only airlines in Brasil.
