45min Connection At EWR - Doable?

I've booked flights from SNN to ORD via EWR with CO in July but the connection time at EWR is only 45 minutes. CO25 arrives ar Terminal C at 11:15 and CO2399 (operated by XE) departs from Terminal A at 12:00. Now all immigration/customs is pre-cleared at SNN so it would be like making a domestic connection without the need to claim baggage or re-clear security at EWR, just take the shuttle bus from C to A. Is it possible to make this connection?

1. If CO sells this connection then it is legal and doable.
Delays to inbound a/c, of course, is a different aspect. I'll leave it to the locals to comment on July for general delays.
2. What do you intend to do, if (big *if*) A.netters advise that such a connection cannot be done ? Wouldn't it have been wiser to ask prior to booking ?

While it may be legal, you're being very optimistic to expect to make a 45 minute connection. Of the 31 busiest US airports, EWR had the worst on time arrival performance for the year 2009 (65.76% of flights on time), and the 2nd worst on time departure performance.

For arrivals, EWR has been the worst or 2nd worst of the 31 busiest US airports every year for the past 6 or 7 years per DOT data. LGA and JFK are almost always very close to the bottom also.

Looking only at July 2009, EWR had the 2nd worst on-time arrival record of the 31 busiest US airports with 67.5% of flights arriving on time. Only LGA was slightly worse.

Usually if the inbound flights are delayed, than so are the outbound flights.

That said, if you do miss-connect, you will be rebooked on one of the four later flights to ORD on CO or possibly even one of the 5 later flights on UA.

Agreed. EWR is simply abysmal for tight connections. You are absolutely depending on the inbound being on time in this scenario.

Awful place. Definitely on my top five least favorite airports (in good company with JFK, LGA, PHL, and DCA) to operate into or out of. If you are on time (or very close) 45 minutes should work; in the future book one of the later connection flights.

Possibly, but I wouldn't gamble a connection on it.

That is a very good point. There's plenty of service later in the day, so you will get rebooked and eventually get to ORD.

Thanks for the help! I'm familiar with the layout of EWR and took this routing last year (SNN-EWR-ORD) and I quite enjoyed EWR. The flights both inbound and outbound were on time (in fact, early) and I love how Terminal C is so big and airy.

I actually think you did the right thing if you want to arrive at ORD as early as possible. Although the connection might be a bit tight, if you miss the connection you should have little difficulty gettnig on a later flight.

Now, if you had to clear Immigration and Customs, there would be NO way you would make it!

Good luck and enjoy your stay in Chicago. And Thanks for flying CO.

That's exactly why I chose this connection, I'll be arriving in Chicago at 1.22pm local which would be the earliest I've ever gotten there; it's a really nice time too.

Definately not!

Ok I have one more question; what's the layout of Terminal C regarding connections? Are arriving and departing passengers seperated? Or is it literally come off the aircraft and go straight to your connecting gate?
