American Airlines has been a major airline in United States since the 30's. This great has a checkered past with the crashes of flight 1, 191 and the Airbus crash in NYC in 2001, all at the fault of AA. Now there a lot of good things about AA also, for example, they not just on time, but they get you there early. My mom like flying with AA, and I feel it is a very classy airline. So what your thoughts on AA?
PS: I hope they keep their livery for another 40 years.

Based on my own experience I would describe AA as an airline that you fly if you have to. Nothing great but not bad compared to other US carriers. They have a very strong South American network, though, and that is one of their strengths that attracts me to AA.

I fly AA a ton, and enjoy it. Even before I had any status, I would take them over US, UA, DL, NW...I just found them better. Today, I am Exec Plat and split 95% of my flying between WN and AA, and I still find AA better than UA, US, DL...personal opinion, but I like AA. Like every airline, they will frustrate me sometimes, but usually less than others.

Bringing up a crash from almost 50 years ago is hardly a good reflection of the airline today.

I fly AA almost for all my flights now. I live in MIA and go to school in DC so it makes sense for me their prices are pretty good. They have the best first class service in the US and the best frequent flyer program. They treat there customers pretty well. I have never had a major problem with them before and any problem was always solved. Even flying out of MIA a lot which is known to have bad customer service I have always had good experiences. They are somewhat of a hometown airline for me so I am basis but AA is a good airline. Nothing too special unless your flight premium but also nothing bad about them. They get the job done.

I second the comments made by sw733 and flymia. AA is dependable, you know what you're going to get when you get on board. Is it the example of excellence it once was, no. But neither is any US airline these days.
I always fly AA, and have never had a bad experience.

When I travel to Latin America I usually fly AA. Last summer I flew San Deigo-Dallas-Miami-Quito in First-International Business and had a very positive experience. I find that coach products on most US airlines is about the same, so AA does not shine here.
