Does anyone know whether a checked car-seat is charged as baggage on Hawaiian? We're headed to HNL next month with our kids and are trying to find out if we will be charged fees for them both ways and whether it might be worth just adding car seats to our car rental since that might be cheaper. I';ve searched HAL's website and come up with nothing so far. Anyone know about this?

Quoting JRadier (Reply 1): Have you tried calling them? Seems like they should know....
I flew to Honolulu on Hawaiian in March and had a couple of questions before the flight. HA's phone-based customer service is excellent and superior to just about every other airline I have dealt with on the phone recently. A Hawaiian customer service representative typically answers the call on the first ring and I was not put on hold. The HA reps I talked with on the phone were extremely knowledgeable about the airline's services and are very helpful. If you call Hawaiian with your question no doubt you will get the exact information you need in a friendly and timely fashion.

Hey, here is what it says at the Hawaiian Air website:
"You may check your stroller or car seat at the gate. However, jogging strollers must be checked in at the ticket counter and may not be gate-checked. Car seats, bassinets, infant carrying seats, or strollers are all accepted as checked baggage at no charge when passenger is accompanying child or infant. (There is no separate baggage allowance for infants held in a passenger's lap.) When in excess of the 2 piece baggage allowance, the passenger will be charged for the excess piece (car seat, bassinet, infant carrying seat, or stroller)."

Well shoot... I poured over that page I don't know how many times.... but I was so fixated on the "Baggage" section. I never let my eyes wander down to the "Children" section.
Thanks for coming up with my answer and showing me my internet blindness
