Quote: Just in time for the peak summer travel season, American Express (NYSE: AXP) and Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today announced the launch of a new benefit for U.S. Consumer and Small Business Gold, Platinum and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Cardmembers. Starting June 1, 2010, Delta SkyMiles Credit Cardmembers will receive a free first checked bag on every Delta flight -- up to a $50 savings per person on a round-trip ticket -- available for up to nine people in the same reservation.
Is DL first to do this, or is any other out there that does it?
Good benefit I suppose, especially for people that complain paying for checked bags.

Although AC doesn't fly within USA, I'll stick with AC since they don't charge first bag at all on any routes. I couldn't remember what I paid for oneway flight on CO from Houston to Austin for first bag?

While I am reminded I need to cancel my DL AMEX Card LOL
I thought about canceling mine a while back, but between the double miles on DL purchases, companion pass ($99 fee upon renewal but still a really good deal), travel insurance at no cost, and now the free bags it's a pretty good deal if you travel a few times a year.

It certainly is but for my hometown we started codesharing with AA now, and I fly them once or twice a month so I switched to AA and their CC now, already at 30K miles!
Alex
Good things come to those who wait, better things come to those who go AFTER it!

That's almost enough to make me apply for one, note almost. Now only if Delta would extend this benefit to those of us with the SunTrust Delta SkyMiles Platinum Check Card..........

A nice perk for those of us who use and benefit from the AMEX card. Add the HiltonHonors "double dip" for SkyMiles accrual and use the "Buy with Miles" feature in lieu of a standard SkyMiles Award to get the best schedule to where you are going. That is a nice feature particularly when traveling TATL, and now save the $23 bag fee......almost pays for the $25 SkyClub visit using the AMEX card........
Obviously I work "the system" to offset my annual fee, but a nice program overall.
Thanks DL. No checked bag fees for my May trip anyway, but nice to know for future rides.
