I have never had so many issues trying to book reward travel. I wanted to fly from IAH to BDA on CO in August for a little vacation. The first issue I came across was that they now capacity control even the EASYPASS rewards. I don't fly like I used to so I have lost my status. There are only 15 seats booked for this flight (737-800) and even paying double miles, I cannot get a seat. So I use my wife's platinum account to get past this issue and now seats are available. I decide that we want to do a stopover in NY for a few days since all CO flights from Houston have to connect there to get to Bermuda. The system tells me it is a open-jaw error (not really) so I do more research. The site says to book stopovers, you have to call to make the reservation, and they are going to charge you $25 per ticket to do so. It clearly states they are going to charge you this fee even if you cannot technically do it online. Ridiculous. Finally I try to call just to confirm, and their recording states they cannot process the call because of volume, then hangs up. Since they just announced a merger, maybe they should have thought about it and brought on more customer service agents.....doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. So in the end, I want to book a ticket but have no possible way of doing it.
I understand the airlines are hurting with the Economy, but continental has totally gone against the principles that they said the stood for...customer service, free meals, etc. They no longer stand out and are just like all the other airlines now.
If it has already gotten this bad with fees and other crap, I dread what will happen with the merger.

If your wife is Platinum, and you are using her miles, there is NO FEE to make the booking with the Reservations agent. Furthermore, calls to the CO Elite Desk are almost always answered in 5 minutes or less, and Platinum members do get priority in the call queue.
