Shortest Flight By A Mainline Carrier?

I know most if not all short hops (unless big city to big city) are usually RJ flights of some sort. But what is the shortest hop that is operated by a mainline carrier? A couple I can think of are JFK-BOS (DL Shuttle), CVG-CMH (I think DL has one MD88 and a 738 going there?)

The question involved mainline flights. Most of those in your list aren't mainline flights. For example, the list doesn't include any mainline US or Canadian carriers. It only shows their regional/commuter partners.

Exactly. Also, some of your list has flights that are almost one hour long. I know there are mainline flights shorter than that.

Pretty sure Delta's shortest mainline flight is DTW-MBS, which is served once weekly (DTW-MBS on a Sunday night; MBS-DTW on a Monday morning) on a DC-9-50. This flight is 98 miles, and serves to cater to Dow.

CVG-CMH is all 50-seaters now. I'm pretty sure the shortest regular mainline flight for Delta is DTW-GRR at 120 miles, which is currently 5x DC-9s plus some Connection.

Shortest mainline flights out of Delta hubs are the following to my knowledge:

JFK - Boston (2x MD-88) - 187 miles
ATL - Knoxville, TN (1x MD-88) - 152 miles (1 mile longer than ATL-GSP)
MSP - Duluth, MN (1x DC-9-50) - 144 miles (though this ends soon)
SLC - Boise, ID (2x A320) - 290 miles
CVG - Atlanta (6x MD-88/737-800) - 373 miles
MEM - Little Rock (1x DC-9-50) - 129 miles
DTW - aforementioned GRR

ATL-BHM checks in at 134 miles, that is the shortest mainline out of ATL for DL.

Quoting DeltAirlines (Reply 7):
MSP - Duluth, MN (1x DC-9-50) - 144 miles (though this ends soon)

When DLH goes all Connection in the summer schedule, MSP-FSD will be the shortest mainline at 196 miles.

Quoting DeltAirlines (Reply 7):
SLC - Boise, ID (2x A320) - 290 miles
SLC-JAC is 205 miles and has a couple of mainline turns in the summer schedule.

Edit for typo.

In the USA, I think these are the shortest:

OGG-KOA on Hawaiian, 84 miles (73 nm), about 15 minutes

PHL-BWI on US Airways, 90 miles (78 nm) about 22-24 minutes

I think there there is also a mainline flight in Alaska that is about 30 nm but can't remember where.

Because of the limited amount of aircraft, most OR flights have a double destination. They fly back to AMS from Bonaire. 2 years ago I flew ACE-FUE with their 767. That's even shorter.

What I did pick up was that the list was the shortest flight by airline (mainline or not), so not necessarily the shortest flights but indeed the shortest for a specific airline.

In the 1990s, I'm fairly sure Midwest Express on occasion flew DC-9s OMA-DSM as a stopover on the way to DCA, which is 128 miles. They also flew OMA-MCI (163 miles), but the shortest (regularly w/ the DC-9) was MSN-MCI: 76 miles.

BA's LGW-JER flights are shorter; 161 miles each way and depending on the routing anywhere between 25mins and 40mins.

Operated by 737s and A319s and I've been on flights where 11 full rows of Club Europe passengers received hot breakfasts, two hot drinks rounds, a cold drinks round and bread. Impressive
