Taking a vacation to eastern europe this summer. Looking for advice on the most painless, cost effective and timely way to do the following scenerio: air LAX - Prague/Budapest returning from croatian coast airport somewhere near Hvar back to LA. Is it easier to do a roundtrip to from prague with a one way from croatia back to prague/budapest or multiple city ticket with 3 segments...? any additional help is greatly appreciated. Looking to take train from Budapest into Croatia.

Trying to hit Prague and or Budapest, then heading to croatia to catch a boat and hitting Navlja, hvar (all the party spots, etc...) and returning back to LA. I hear the adriatic coast is fun and incredible. Any additional insight is greatly appreciated. Not sure if I have the time to make it all the way to Dubrovnik. Thanks!

I'm afriad I can't comment much on the flight aspect. It may be easier / cheaper to book a return to a major hub and use LCCs to travel around. Eg. Fly to London, then use Wizz from Luton to Prague or Budapest, then Wizz back to London from Split, Dubrovnik or Zagreb. Easyjet also fly London - Prague / Budapest / Split / Dubrovnik. Easyjet has the advantage of using Gatwick (and STN) so you could fly in from the US to LGW and avoid changing airport.

Another thing, try to d othe daytime train Budapest to Zagreb. There are fantastic views of Lake Balaton. We then took a train Zagreb - Rijeka then a bus to Porec. Porec was nice but quite similar to many Med tourist destination, though surprisingly full of Germans and almost noone else! No sand on the beaches though, just large rocks.

Quoting thomacf (Thread starter):

Flight from the Croatian coast in Summer can see high fares if using LCCs or flights for holiday makers (called charter flights here in Europe).

One option might be to book with LH (or LX) an open jaw as:
LAX - FRA (MUC/ZRH) - PRG
SPU - FRA (MUC/ZRH) - LAX

Alternative could be to use DL from LAX via ATL to PRG, then return from either PRG or BUD (maybe even via CDG or AMS).
However, having a LAX to ATL-transcon adds to your overall travel time (more than compared to connecting in Europe).

Second however: I have not had any look into current fares ...

How about flying r/t LAX - LON and then take a low cost like Wizzair or Easyjet to Prague.
Prague-Budapest is a matter of 6 hours and 16 EUR on a bus or 19 EUR on a train.
Get down to Croatia by train and return to London from eitther SPU or DBV with a lowcost (Wizzair or Easyjet)? At this moment the flights are still at reasonable level, 40-60 EUR ow.

Hi, welcome to Europe!

Pls. visit http://www.aerocroatia.fly.to/ ; on the right hand side you will find a link "timetable". ALL flights to/from Croatia are listed, incl. direct links to the airlines web-pages!

Yeap, I would also suggest to fly cheaper into a big hub and connecting onwards with a LCC (e.g. Ryanair, easyjet etc.!)!
