UA Economy Plus; Is It Worth It?

I will be flying on UA from BOS to PDX through SFO in late July this year. I have booked an economy seat on both flights. However, I have enough Mileage Plus miles to upgrade to an Economy Plus seat for the flights. I am 5' 9" tall.

Is United Economy Plus worth it?

I like it a lot, I have used it on short flights like SFO-SEA, and long flights like SEA-NRT, The only noticeable difference the last time I used it was the leg room, Although I'm a little taller at 6'3" the extra room is worth money/miles.

I would say no unless you will have a decent size bag under the seat in front of you. The other possibility is if you will be working on a laptop and are concerned about the person in front of you reclining her/his seat.

I'm 5'7" and never seen the need, though I've never said no to the seats if I'm not paying extra. I find this to be especially true if you have an aisle seat in Y.

I want to live in an old and converted 727...

I will have a small carry-on bag under the seat in front of me. However, I will not be working on a laptop.

I am sitting in an asile seat for the BOS-SFO flight, and a window for the SFO-PDX flight.

I'm 5'8" and no, it is not worth it. Save your miles for an F-class upgrade.

I'd just say for it at the kiosk and not use miles. I did it on EWR-DEN on time and it was like 37 dollars at the airport.

I would say go for it. Especially if you can snag an exit row seat. It does seem absurd but I'm 5'11 and I hated sitting in non-economy plus. Granted all my flying on UA was done as non rev, but I would 100% pay for the product today.

You cannot upgrade to Economy Plus using Mileage Plus miles. If you have paid money (rather than miles) for the seats, you can purchase an E+ upgrade, or use the miles to upgrade yourself to the next cabin.

As with everything, depends on the price. At 5ft8, whilst it probably wont be a "lifesaver" it really comes down to the value you'd place on additional space.

Not really, no. Sat in it on IAD-FRA on the 767, didn't make much of a difference, granted I am only 5'7". I agree witht he comments above, unless you will ahve a large bag in front of you (which you said you will not), then save the miles. It isn't worth it,

Quoting DocLightning (Reply 4):
Save your miles for an F-class upgrade.

Where you will not only experience a major upgrade in seat comfort, but also an upgrade in service as well.

Happy trip to you!

It depends on your height, the route and the load factor. If you are tall it may be worth it. I am 5'7'' and I once upgraded at check-in to UA E+ for the SFO-LHR segment. I liked the extra legroom. The most important factor for me, however, was that I had an empty seat next to me and thus the entire window row on the B777 - that made all the difference. The regular E- cabin was way too crowded.

I'm the same height as you, and I can tell you that you'd definitely be able to cross your legs (left foot on right knee) with plenty of room left in front of you. Although, I can also do this on a United Express EMB-170 in regular Y, but not mainline United.
