Hello,

I was fortunate enough to fly on the A380 from LHR to CDG on monday (2nd August) and took loads of photos.

However, I didn't record the registration of the aircraft and would like to know how I can find out which one it was.

Can anyone help? It's not urgent but I would like to record it on the certificate I received.

Just as an additional point.... WOW! .... what an amazing aircraft.

Thanks,

ADB1

AF1981 on Monday 2nd August was AF's first A380, F-HPJA, which is also the A380 that took me to LHR on 25th July

What are the loads like on this rotation? Are they selling J and F seats too?

The loads seems pretty high. they are selling the J seats but not the F seats.

Why is AF flying the A380 on the CDG-LHR route...? Is it a regular flight to be continued in future or just a temporary thing....?

I would assume initial line flying on type after they were were type rated in the simulator. With the short sectors they can train a number of pilots a day before having the numbers required to go long haul.

I wonder how long the takeoff roll is on that flight. Probably less than 10% fuel load. 30 seconds?

It's temporary. It operates days 5-6-7-1 during the summer. These shorts rotations are done to accelerate pilot training. It is very common for airlines who introduce a new type of long-haul aircraft in their fleet to put it temporarily on a short-haul route, in addition to the long-haul rotations. It comes to my mind that BA & AF did this also when they introduced the B777.
AF did a special offer for these A380 flights to LHR : 79 Euros in Y. This was quite nice as many people were able to enjoy an A380 ride at a very low price.

The 4th A380 was initially scheduled to be delivered to AF in November 2010. So Air France had a Crew training plan for operating 3 aircraft until the end of this year.
But as F-HPJD is ready, Airbus pushed AF to take delivery of the aircraft in August (It should arrive at CDG tomorrow).
The choice was simple for AF :

Either keeping F-HPJD in a hangar at CDG until they have enough crew to operate it in November, either finding a solution to speed up Crew training by adding short flights with the A380 during the summer.

On both legs I was on the Y sections were completely full and on the way back J was about quater full. I think they made rather a lot of money out of their training flights. Well done to them, they did a fantastic job.
