I'm about to start my freshman year at the University of Arizona and I've already got a flight booked back to MKE with US (TUS-PHX-MKE) on November 24 for Thankgiving break. However, I haven't booked a return flight for the 28th yet because the prices showin up right are through the roof (400$ range). Now I know that the Sunday after Thanksgiving is a popular day to travel, but since its still three months away do you think the prices will go down some over time? Also, if I'm forced to fly to PHX instead, is there kind of ground transportation between PHX and Tucson? Thanks.
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

I lived in Tucson for 5 years. There is a shuttle service that departs and arrives just just about on the UofA campus, I think on the 6th Street 7-11 or mimi mart type of shop. Yes, flying on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in very expensive. I think it might be called the Phoenix Shuttle.

Nope. As times goes on, less and less seats will be available and those that are available will be higher in price.
The only possible alternative may be to fly back on Saturday unless you can skip any courses on that Monday.
A quick check on Kayak.com shows an MKE-MSP-TUS flight (7am departure) on 11/28 Delta for $283 on the Delta website. This same flight goes for $160 if you were to come back on Saturday.

If you can swing it, do the Monday flight. But watch your professors, particularly if you have an exam on Monday, some profs don't take the day-after excuse well. I do usually try to accommodate the student, of course, since I'm usually one of the people taking advantage of the cheap day-after flight.
Enjoy Arizona (the state)! It's a blast. Oh, and do well at college, too.

Book something now! I will almost guarantee the fares, particularly one-way fares, will NOT GO DOWN for one of the heaviest - if not the biggest - travel day of the holiday season. Christmas travel is spread out from mid-December through the first week of January, but Thanksgiving is crunched in that traditional Wednesday-Sunday travel period.
Consider when you can/must return to TUS or PHX balanced with family home plans, and get yourself booked soon.
FL has a nonstop priced at $121 departing MKE-PHX on 11/28 departing at 850am and as others have suggested book the shuttle on to TUS. Add $ for bag check and seat selection if need be.

Alright so I took your suggestion and booked the flight on FL along with the shuttle ride down to Tucson. I guess that means now I gotta start thinking about my Christmas/New Years vacation flights home.

I bought my Christmas tickets to Denver in June, an unprecedented 3 months ealier than I do usually, and the fares were the same as last September! Only a limited number of inexpensive seats in June. Yes, book now, it's only going to get worse. At least you have more flexibility with days.
