I have to travel a lot for work during the "trough periods", but until now it has all been domestic. Well next week I have to do a multi-city trip (as usual) to audit 3 stations, and they are all international. I have to say, I'm a bit nervous but excited too LOL!

Anyhoo, here is how my flights/schedules are lined up:

20-SEP: JFK-BGI (B6), work @ BGI, head over to the hotel grab a nice dinner, R.O.N.
21-SEP: BGI-ANU-SKB-SXM (LIAT), work at SXM, head over to the hotel (THE SONESTA!!! YAY!), chill at Maho, R.O.N
22-SEP: SXM-ANU-SLU (LIAT) then SLU-UVF via ground transport. Work @ UVF, head over to the hotel, have a nice dinner, R.O.N.
23-SEP: UVF-JFK (B6)

Now, the entire thing about taking multiple flights, etc. doesn't bother me much. I am more worried about getting around, currency, possible language barriers, etc. I will need taxis at all 3 airports to get to the hotel so I probably have to pay that in cash. Should I bring cash with me and change it out there at a currency exchange or do I take $$ out of an ATM there in their currency or do they take USD? How expensive will these taxi rides cost (I am staying close to all 3 airports). Has anyone made the journey from SLU to UVF before...and how much does THAT set you back? Are there any language barriers (I'm thinking probably not since there are a lot of US tourists going to those islands). Any good places to go see or eat that you can suggest?

Basically I try to have as much fun as possible during my down time on these trips as long as I have the energy for it...but then again a nice tropical beach sounds good to me right now LOL!

Thanks for your help!

Use ATMs/ ATMs give you exact exchange rates. However using an American Debit card you will have to pay an international fee (well it depends on the bank so call ahead and see how much the fee is, if there is one etc..) Most banks also have an international partner where there are no extra fees. For example when i was in Europe for 5 months I could use my Bank of America Debit card at deutsche bank and I had no extra ATM fees. That is their european partner. But I would imagine many people taking USD they rough math to convert it. Most of the islands currencies if not all are either based on USD or the Euro.

I never been to an island where the people that deal with tourist do not speak some english. Most people speak english.

Good advice, thanks! Hopefully the airports have an ATM so I can take out some cash before getting into the taxi LOL!

I asked when I went to the bank yesterday, it doesn't seem that mine has any affiliations outside the US. That's not a big problem, I don't use the debit card that much, I typically use the Visa or AmEx.

I'm excited about the flights between the islands. I don't get to fly on small aircraft that often anymore. In fact, I FINALLY had my first DASH8 flight a few weeks ago on US from LGA to BWI and back and loved it. I'm looking forward to (weather willing) some really great views on my flights between the islands on LIAT. Definitely bringing my camera!

Anyone have any reviews on LIAT?

Oh, I have another good question if anyone knows. I have a very short transfer time in ANU. Will I have to clear customs and check in again at ANU before making my connection???? I'm hoping not, as its a little tight for my liking time-wise.

Bank of America when I called told me they did not have one either. It took some searching from me to figure it out.

I still have not flown on a Dash-8. Hope to soon. Those flights should be a lot of fun.
