I second that. Some of the gate areas are really ghetto. I also saw a guy ram a column with one of those golf-cart things that old folks ride on. Fortunately he had no passengers, so it was pretty funny.

I'd say JFK with an honorable mention to CDG. FCO is no bargain either but all of southern Italy is like that apparently.

I think the dullness and age of this Terminal often makes it look dirty , I dont totally agree its dirty but I do agree its far from a nice experience. Cold war and depressing certainly.

I've been to T1 and T2F. I didn't find any of the horror stories you read on these forums, it was actually quite a good experience.

Nothing's worse then flying the same registration twice, except flying it 4 times..

I was shocked to find out that CDG is the same age as DFW. DFW has aged much better I think.

I have to agree! But not all terminals are filthy, as usual DL's terminals are on the top of the list. As well as Terminal 4 during peak hours, it's filthy! The cleanest terminals are usually T1 and T5 based on my experience.

MNL looks REALLY dirty but it's really not, its just that the terminal is older than my grandparents.

It's a cultural thing.

The Delta terminal at JFK...(as well as several other terminals at that airport). What a better way to say "Welcome to the USA" than with an airport that resembles an inner city bus terminal.

The main concourse at SJU is a bit nasty looking....at least the last time I was there.

The last time I was at MIA, the place wasn't exactly sparkling either.

Hmmm, I really can't make up my mind on this one, so I'll say it's a 3-way tie between LAX, ORD, and LGA.

LAX - The only terminal that doesn't feel like a third world cesspool would be T5. Supposedly AA and UA spent a great deal of money renovating T4 and T7, respectively, but I don't see where any of that money went. Basically all of them can be summed up by: filthy carpets, vast swaths of main flooring closed off for janitorial purposes (even entire bathrooms off-limits at times) at all times of day, dingy lighting, dirty windows, I could go on and on.

ORD - T5 must be the magic number, because I actually find it quite nice. The domestic terminals are all awful, including UA's relatively new T1 and particularly T2.

LGA - now I've only been to the Central Terminal, with its dingy/dirty low ceilings, disgusting gate areas, etc.

Honorable mentions: MIA Concourse F, FLL T4, NAS, ALY, FCO Terminal C, SFO T3.

I must admit that I've been spoiled by the likes of ICN and KIX.

However, that picture of EWR doesn't do justice. I actually found it quite dirty in many areas of the terminal. Maybe it was having a bad day. Who knows...

When I went to Africa, I was extremely impressed by CAI (and T3 wasn't open yet, I flew out of T1). ALY was pretty bad but they just opened the new HBE terminal and now plan to tear down and rebuild the ancient ALY terminal.

In addition to CAI, pretty much all of the major African hubs - CMN, ALG, ADD, LOS (MMA2), JNB, DUR, CPT, MRU, and even LAD - look much nicer AND cleaner than several major U.S. airports like the ones HOONS90 and I mentioned. DKR will be getting its new airport very soon (the present one has been infamously described as the world's worst!), leaving NBO as the only other big hub I can think of that isn't equal or better to the average American hub airport facility. Sure, the more obscure airports in Kinshasa or Bamako may be terrible, but other than abrelesojos who really finds themselves using them?  .

I went through CDG T1 in September and I don't think its really all that bad. ADP did some major renovations recently and although not on the same level as CDG 2E or 2F I wouldn't rate it as filthy or 3rd world.

PHL - except for A West the rest of the place borders on the 3rd world.

The old terminals at DTW were 3rd world caliber especially the international arrivals terminal.

Hahahahaha...good call. But I know someone...me!

There are definitely some very nice airports in Africa - those you name are definitely the nicest for the most part. But man oh man...there are some dumps. Especially when you get off the beaten track and find places like Monrovia, Cotonou, Bangui and Namibe (Angola)...I'm pretty sure my life is a little shorter thanks to god knows what lived in those airports

Guess I was lucky then, the AF staff was very helpful and friendly. The terminal (at least 2F) was very well lit and clean, only I missed a functional food store / restaurant.
