What would be the fastest (in total travel hours) way to fly from AMS to SYD? (Mix airline allowed) By ex. taking KLM from AMS to Dubai then EK from Dubai to SYD. Any other recommendations? I'm planning to fly in November but donno which flight/airline taking yet b'cause I would like to spend a minimum time in traveling. (only have a max of 3 weeks to visit Australia  Smile/happy/getting dizzy )

Well, judging from what I found on Amadeus, the quickest way would be MH via KUL, e.g. MH17 AMS-KUL 12:00-06:45+1, then MH141 KUL-SYD 09:45-19:35+1...23h35min total travel.

Going via DXB would actually take longer, the daily KLM flight to DXB arrives in around 10PM I think, so you'd have to wait till 10:15AM next morning for the non-stop to SYD. Alternatively, you could do AMS-MUC with KLM, MUC-DXB-SYD with EK, approx. 25h35 in total...

If minimum travel time is what you're after, then go with MH  Smile

Without an exact departure date it's hard to tell, but I was able to find a 25h 40m total trip time with a stopovers at LHR and SIN.

Randomly picking a day in November, this is what I got:

15/11/04
AMS-LHR BD 102 9.40a - 10.00a
LHR-SIN QF 32 11.15a - 7.15a
SIN-SYD QF 32 9.00a - 9.20p

Total duration: 23hr 15mn (25hr 40mn with connections)

Next shortest is 26h55m. The only difference is the layover time in LHR between the KLM flight from AMS and QF 32.

Hope this helps,
N

Doh, somebody beat me to it, and got a shorter trip for you.

Airdolomit, what do you think would be than the fastest by
flying hours? (no stopover included) I think than EK would beat MH, or am I wrong?

Ntspelich, I planned to depart around the 18th of november could be +/- 1 day.

How about CX via HKG to SYD? Also worthwhile are the special fares they have when you call them directly. ( At least it used to be when I worked for them.)

I would recommend MH, better service, better comfort, better airport to transit in.
AMS-KUL MH 17 Depart 12.00 arrive at KUL 6.55
AMS-SYD MH 141 Depart 9.45 arrive at SYD 20.40
Total : 22hours 40 mins

Thanks Chrisrad, that is an option but I already flew MH back in 2002 on the leg AMS-KUL. To be honest I don't like them. If you ask me the reason strange it is I can't tell you it is just a feeling maybe I felt to crampy in their 777 so I donno exactly what it was but the final result is I don't like them and try to choose another airline when possible. But contrary to my MH experience, KUL as an airport is  Big thumbs up

If I have the choice between MH or CX, I would definitively choose CX. Flew them also back in 2002 from HKG to KUL and experienced a very good service and comfort on board of their A330's.

Thanks for the hint, KL911  Wink/being sarcastic

What about AF flying to Australia? Are they flying down under if yes which route and AC are they using?

Not only is the above option the best MH and KL codeshare on each others flights for a range of different fares and with MH best service in the world you cannot go wrong.

Luxair - MAS now operate the 744 into AMS if you found the 777 to cramped - but you may still find yourself on a 777 into Sydney. Oddly I find MAS 777s slightly more comfortable than the 747 esp if you get a window seat as its 2-5-2... but each to their own.  Smile

Of course - the option of an MAS ticket may also allow you to choose to fly on KL809/810 instead on the AMS-KUL legs.

To answer your question on Air France - it seems that AF has now placed its code on MH16/17 and may soon start placing its code on the KUL-Oz/NZ routes if MAS gets invited to join Skyteam.

We finaly decided to fly AMS-Dubai on KLM then continue next day with EK to SYD. It is for sure not the fastest way to go but I think quiet comfortable  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

BTW, I saw in another topic regarding EK a picture where a A340-500 was shown in Sydney, are they using the A340-500 on that route from DUB to SYD on a regularly basis?

Comfortzone, thanks for the info about CX will think about that option. As my wife works for a major airline the fare isn't the issue for my decision and we are free to choose which airline we want to fly. As I newer flew with the
A340-500 and if EK is using that AC to or from Sydney then I will go for EK. What I could do is fly from AMS with CX to HKG on the A340-300 then from HKG to SYD on the A330-300 and return with EK's A340-500 from SYD to DUB then stay for 2 nights in DUB then the last leg with our lovely blue 777 to AMS. Yes  Big thumbs up that's the flight to do!!!

I have to agree MAS777, MH's 777's are more comfortable than their 747's the seats are somewhat wider.
Oh well enjoy KLM's wonderful 31" pitch  Big thumbs up and you call MH "crampy"  Insane and EK's narrow seats and indifferent service are much better....

Well Chrisrad, I know it sound a bit crazy but that's the way I experienced it. I flew last year EK from DUS to DUB and I realy felt not "crampy". But to be honest maybe I should compare their 777 against each other b'cause I flew EK's A330 and not their 777. Yes, EK's service was a way better then MH's service at least on our flights. BTW on the return flight from DUB to DUS, EK upgraded us to Business
so now you see I would never say something negative about
EK they where so kind to us  Innocent

Regarding KLM, they have a special place in my heart no matter their seat pitch. My wife works for that company since years so they are in a certain way a part of our daily life should I add more words?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

But however, I wonder nobody mentioned AU001 (NG ops) from VIE via KUL!
Never flown NG triple7 so don't know how it is!

At this moment my brother is flying SYD - AMS via SIN.
He already flew SYD - SIN on QF319 (I believe, or it was QF5), and now he's in flight KL0838 SIN - AMS, estimated arrival time AMS: 05.50 (GTM+1).
Don't know how long this route exactly takes....

BTW: Is there a flight tracker for the SIN - AMS route?
