How Reliable Is United's Baggage Deliver?

We will be soon flying with UA from LGA-DEN connecting in ORD on the outbound and inbound flights. My question is, how reliable is UA's baggage delivery? I'm not concerned about UA messing up with our luggage (Which reminds me of that youtube video lol) I'm concerned about IF OUR BAGGAGE will get to Denver with us. We're on a tight schedule, so we wouldn't want a lost luggage.. I know the chances are slim, but still.

PS: We really don't need to check-in a baggage, I just want those little baggage tags for souvenir purposes

And how much is the charge?

And btw, does UA print real boarding cards? or just paper? Thanks

Are you talking about the ones you write your name on? If that is what you are after you can just go up to the counter and take as many as you would like! I would even be happy to send some out for you in the mail!
If your after the printed tag........ well your a very odd person!

United is like most other airlines, your bags are most likely going to arrive in DEN with you but there is a small chance that they will not. If your bags do not arrive with you just file a claim at the baggage claim office or call the 800 number and your bags will be tracked down and delivered to the address where you are staying. In addition to that, you can also will receive a travel voucher for your troubles. United is also testing out a new proactive customer service team that will call you and give you updates about your bags so that you don't have to waist time calling us.

Bags are $50, so if you do not NEED to check a bag why bother!

Real cards, blue for economy and gold for first. I'm not 100% sure but I think E+ also gets a gold boarding card.
BTW when you check in if there is still E+ seats available it is a great deal! If you are flying ORD-DEN I'm sure being an Anutter you booked yourself on something nice like the 777 or 767 and E+ is a great place to sit on those aircraft. I'm sure you already know this but there is always a small chance that if you talk to the gate agent and are very nice to the gate agent and mention your love for United/airlines/airplanes he/she will give you an upgrade if seats are available after all the "real" upgrades are handed out.

Remember, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Welcome to United Airlines!

I'm glad that UA still has real boarding passes! And yes, I'm gonna be on the 777
I will look into that, an upgrade sounds definitely nice! Their E+ is actually just $39.00 on domestic flights, not bad at all.

Thanks for your very detailed response!

Yeah at $39 you would be crazy not to take it! I'm 6'1 and when I have to sit in the back I notice a big difference in the E+ seats. Get yourself a window seat on the wing and you will have a nice ride to Denver. I'll IM you another little naughty secret you can use on United. Its bad but will make the trip so good!

First checked bag is $25, not $50.

UA has very few stations that still issue card stock boarding passes. The vast majority, and all of the hubs I think, issue the thermal paper boarding passes.

If you do decide to check bags, you should be just fine. And on a hub-to-hub route, if your bags DO get delayed there are plenty of flights to get them to you.

Wow I feel pretty stupid! I don't have to pay for bags when I fly NRSA or on positive space and the last time I actually bought a ticket was for an international flight and I'm pretty sure I was charged $50 for my second bag, first one is free, but I guess this was because it was international. Thank you for clearing that up!

This one I'm not so sure of, maybe the self check-in machines print on paper but I think the agents still give out cards. It could also be that they only give out cards for the First Class passengers? In the past 2 weeks I have got a card in IAD, DEN, and ORD so I am sure we still have cards. Of course he wants to keep it to remember the trip but for me and passengers who are not looking for a souvenir the paperless boarding pass on my blackberry is the best way to go!

Yeah it varies I'm pretty sure. I've never checked in at a hub, but post security they have the thermal paper.

(Which reminds me of that youtube video lol)

Within a week or two of that becoming a big hit, someone at UA decided to steal my golf clubs right out of the travel case, as I got the travel case back WITHOUT THE CLUBS (the extra pair of running shoes that I had stuffed in the main compartment along with the clubs did manage to arrive with me, however). Coming back on this same trip, my empty travel case and suitcase failed to connect, but they were delivered about 12 hours later or so. I live 15 minutes from the airport, but did come in on the last flight of the night, and had to wait till the first flight of the next morning, so as long as you're not on the last flight of the day, hopefully they get on the next flight to DEN (that is assuming of course, the contents are not stolen right out of the suitcase before they get to baggage claim at your destination).

That's an expensive souvenir. Also, why not wait till your return trip, that way if your luggage does misconnect, you'll at least be home and won't be in as much of a need for your luggage (or shouldn't be).

No kiddin.......Years back, just a couple of days before NW went to computer generated bag tags, an agent gave me well over 100 of the old colored ones.
I have them under the glass on my desk top. Great conversation piece for anyone who sits down.

I'll go with your idea, since we would be printing our BP at home on our outbound flights, then it's better not to check-in any luggage, thanks!
