Hi fellow Anetters,

i am Star Gold member (Lufthansa Senator) and I really enjoy flying Star Alliance with some exceptions (i.e. Spanair) !

I am flying to Helsinki next weekend for business and I am booked in Economy Class TXL - (LH A321) - FRA - (LH A321) - HEL - (LH Avro85 operated by KF) - TXL .

I now checked out the Blue1 webpage and it seems that they only have a low cost economy class, with softdrinks and snacks for purchase (buy onboard).

How come that when I book a Lufthansa flight on lufthansa.com , making all my seat reservations etc. is never said flight operated by Blue1 (only said KF and i thought that might be Lufthansa City Line). They are offering a Lufthansa Flight with less benefits which i am not used if I only fly Lufthansa!

Don´t you think it should cleary say, "this flight is operated by Blue 1 with a Low Cost Service only" ???

Is that LH7014 by any chance. The LH website says Operated by Blue1 under the flight number. (Its KF791 btw)

It does.

Looking at the KF website, they have 2 cabins, with free Tea and coffee and a BOB type service.
This is a normal code share agreement between 2 star alliance airlines, as it is with other alliances.

KF are members of the Star Alliance. All you will be missing on this 1.55 flight is a glass of apfelsaftshorle. Everything else should be provided as usual.

They only fly the route once weekly it seems.

You are booked in economy class... and you're getting to your final destination aren't you? What's the issue if you don't get a free meal/snack?

Whatever happened to people just being happy to be flying?

Thanks for bashing me! I only meant if the flight a Lufthansa flight it should offer the same service like Lufthansa, Swiss, BMI, Austrian etc. ! I don't really care about a meal as it usually bad anyway and I much prefer the snacks in the lounge ! But I usually like to get a drink during the flight , which is this case I have to pay, right!? Which means I need a receipt for it and put in a claim form for my company! I am going there for business! It's just a pain! If I want to travel light I usually fly easyJet or Germanwings! You get what you pay for! If I book Lufthansa I do expect LH Service! Period!

Because he booked LH and LH offers free drink runs (usually 2 drinks, incl. wines/beer) and a sandwich. Maybe on the longer HEL flight even a meal (!).
KF is lowcost. If he wanted to fly lowcost, he could've gone to EZY or FR and he knew it's lowcost.

KF (and JK also) are pretty poor members for Star Alliance imho.

Why should it, look at all the airlines in each alliance, not every airline will offer the same service style as the other.
I believe BMI have a BOB product like Blue1 btw.

No, you get free tea and coffee on board.

Because he booked LH

He booked a LH flight number on a Blue1 flight. It does clearly show it as operated by the airline, which in the posters first post he says he did not see. I went and looked, and posted a cut and paste of the LH reservation system. He would have known this. He has probably come down with the same problem a lot of people come down with. Not reading things through properly. Codeshares are very confusing things. It would be good if Travel websites, and even an airlines own website advised customers more about this. But there will always be people that have not paid attention and get confused when they go to the airport.

In which case you could apply that theory to BMI too..

... Only on UK domestic and Republic of Ireland flights, AFAIK. Unless you have status with *A, in which case you get freebies on BD routes as I wrote above.

If you don't like it, don't book it. Take the alternative via FRA.
Lufthansa has neither the right nor the power to tell other star alliance members what kind of service they have to offer.

Is this entirely true? An airline alliance can set some minimum level of service as the terms of entry and continued membership. There should be some degree of consistency of quality across an alliance, though of course there will always be differences between airlines. That said, I have little sympathy for the OP. It's quite clearly written that this flight is operated by Blue1. I really don't see the horror in having to obtain a receipt to get reimbursed by your company for a drink you took on a short flight.

Hi, right, its not horror to get the money reimbursed, it's just a pain! To much paperwork for nothing! No thanks! If I would have booked it myself I would rather have taken the LH Flight ! Well, I think I have to start booking my own flights and I think STAR ALLIANCE should make a list which airline is a full service airline and which airline is low cost, as not everybody can check the airlines onbord service level before booking a codeshare flight ! If I book Star Alliance I should receive a constant service level.

SO I guess those are the LOW COST VARIANT CARRIERS IN STAR:

SPANAIR (for sure on all flights)
BMI (on domestic and ireland flights only)
BLUE 1 (all flights)

any other flights offering nil onboard service @ Star?

Brussels Airlines (SN) has b.light (economy) with BOB, b.flex (economy+) and b.business on their Europe Network.
But I believe that if you booked economy on lufthansa you'll probably end up in b.flex

Im a bit confused. In your first post you said you made the booking and were complaining about it not telling you who it was operated by (Even though it clearly does) and now your saying you did not make it and have to make your own from now on.??

Every alliance, and the airlines within it will have some difference in on-board service. For example BAs euro offering is different from IBs offering, and even QF differ on some services.

Looking for example at the BA website, I selected the codeshare with IB, scrolling down to the next page button, you see this information

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs1380.snc4/163231_488765876465_599326465_6528224_2350968_n.jpg

Problem is people will still not read it, even though it is there.

Dont forget SK in the shame corner of star alliance.

If you have someone else booking trips for you, then you need to tell them what airlines to avoide, and to be carefull with codeshares.

I dont care so much about the food, but i think all airlines should provide drinks as a minimum.

I think that if ticket is sold through LH, a LH service should be expected. E.g if flight is operated by SK, then LH ticketed customers should be placed in economy flex where drinks and food are provided.

OK fair enough, I agree it's clearly mentioned. LH website always shows a special sign on the flightdetails when it's operated by any other carrier. Even Cityline gets a special note.

The problem is that LH doesn't give a good information that Blue1 service is BOB. They will mention you fly on Blue1 indeed. But how do I know that Blue1 is BOB?! I decided to book LH (service) and get on Blue1. Ok, no problem. But I find out on board that service is non-excisting.

Blue1 is SASFinland actually, part of the SK family.
Blue1 is full of surprises... I flew them OSL-HEL in Dec, the flight was operated by a Danish charter carrier Jet Time using old uncomfortable 737 - but a tasty large sandwhich and coffee were served free on this short flight.

To clearify: I got the reservation sent by email from my agency: It only statet LH7014 (KF). I though as it was operated by an Avro85 that it might be Lufthansa Regional or Cityline. I only found out later its Blue1 and I checked their webpage! To get it in order! I just think, if you book Lufthansa (as my agency usually soley does) I do expect my Lufthansa Service (which if the flight is operated by Eurowings, BMI, Contact Air, etc. does). I don't want to say Blue1 is a bad airline , nothing, I just think a service level with at least free Softdrinks should be given, otherwise I can choose a low cost airline.
If Lufthansa would give the informationen BA does about IB , I would be happy! Btw. I am avoiding all Spanish Airilnes !

You keep blaming LH and Blue1, but with this comment above its your AGENCY that have not told you the correct information. I see this all the time at work. People come to the desk with their travel agent documents and all it says is the codeshare flight number and nothing else.

I am still trying to understand though why in your first post you said you had booked it and did not see any info on who was operating the flight when booked, and now your saying the booking was emailed to you by your agent. They are 2 different things and explain more why your are now in the situation your in.

BMI

As has been stated, BMI also offer a Buy On Board policy. As do SAS, Aer Lingus and Iberia, other legacy carriers.
And surely, whether you get a free drink or not is not the whole "service" of the airline. Sometimes, I'd rather pay EUR3 or 4 for a snack of my choice, rather than be handed a biscuit or bag of nuts that I don't particularly like.

It's true. LH doesn't indicate that flights operated by KF will mean a buy-on-board policy. Neither does his travel agency, but also the LH website (for any other passenger) doesn't mention about it. Operated by KF, yes that's mentioned. But it doesn't say anything about service level, so that can be a dissappointment.

This is what your travel agency have sent you, it is up them them to tell you who you are flying and what airline. They are the ones in error, that's what Im trying to get at. If you booked it directly it tells you who operates the flight, this is just a basic itinerary from the agent. As I stated earlier, travel agents seem to do this alot.

Quoting Delta777Jet (Reply 20):

Because at first you were blaming the airline saying you booked it and when booking it did not say it was not a LH flight, and it was in fact made thru an agent and you received the agents own itinerary.

Hi guys, now as I have done my flight I once again have to confirm: Blue1 is not good at all!

- Old plane (Avro85)
- Delayed due to tech
- Overpriced Menu (BOB)
- rude Gate Agents

I will never ever fly Blue1 again, and I really have to talk to my Travel Agency not to book them anymore!
