A coworker of mine is flying IAD-LHR on BA #216 and connecting to EK #8 LHR-DXB next month. Will BA at IAD allow her to check her bag all the way to DXB on EK? Her connection time in LHR is 2 hrs and since its a terminal change she's worried about missing her EK flight. Any thoughts or suggestions?

A 2 hour connection is tight even without checked luggage since they have to take the bus transfer and then go through a ticket check and security which all take time. If she has to collect her bags and go through immigration, it will be extrodinarily tight. Fortunately EK is somewhat flexible and has multiple operations if she misses the connection. If she misses the flight, they'll probably rebook her on the next flight without problem if there are seats.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Is the option still available to get a later flight out of LHR just to be safe?
I have done the terminal change before and the signs advising how long it will take if you board an incorrect transfer bus are mostly accurate, so if this is their first time through LHR it is better to be safe rather than sorry, no need to spoil the makings of a good trip with a tight connection.
