Accra Stop-Over: DL 135 & UA 991 Question

Back in 2004, I flew Continental GIG-GRU-IAH, and we were required to deplane in GRU and clear security again, then reboard the same aircraft for the flight to IAH.

I was just wondering if passengers are required to deplane at ACC for the Delta (DL135) and United (UA991) flight before crossing the Atlantic. Anyone know?

The Delta flight is on the ground in Accra for 2 hours, and the United flight is close to the same, seems like a long time for the thru passengers to remain on the aircraft.
