Hello,
My friend is planning his honeymoon journey. He plans to fly around Indian Ocean region - perhaps South Asia, or East Africa, or both. He would like to visit several places with flights inbetween.
His funds, however, are not unlimited, so he asked me for advices.
What low cost airlines (or similar) exist in this area (India, East Africa, etc.) that would allow to fly between various points in the same region or internationally, and (if possible) would allow to access island-nations (e.g. Sri Lanka, Maldives, Seyschelles, Mauritius, Madagascar)?

India- SpiceJet, IndiGo, also KingfisherRED.
SE Asia countries- Air Asia all the way, or possibly Jetstar or Valuair. Avoid Tiger.
Couldn't help you with the other side, ie Madagascar.
Now, the really cool thing about Air Asia is that on long routes (branded as Air Asia X) you can get a J-class style lie-flat at a good bargain. Could be an excellent way to travel between India and Malaysia.
