If Eastern Air Lines was still around which alliance do you think they would have joined?

Star Alliance. The south is their weakness and where EA had considerable historical strength. It would have been a SkyTeam/Star Alliance battle for ATL, with US marginalized if invited to join at all.

Global Alliance. Their Connectivity with Pan Am's int'l market can't be understated. And with their european partners of British Caledonian, and their Ansett friends in the south pacific, they can't be beat!

oneworld.

AA and the old EA would have been a good match. But AA is the old EA in MIA at least...

Not to mention Viasa's strength in South America and Sabena's considerable presence in Europe. Air Afrique also gives the Global Alliance a strong anchor in Africa.

If Eastern Airlines did not close down it would have done a complete fleet refreshment with 777's, 737-800's, 767-300ER's around 1996-2000's and later joined sky team a few years later. Then wait for it... Financial Trouble! (Again) before getting taken over by DL

See either way they would have collapsed!

If not:

They would have joined Star and got taken over by CO.
