This is the latest chapter in a recent flurry of attempts by me to find a suitable flight into Germany (I can describe the back story later), but can anyone share whether LH446 is typically operated by a 744 or an A346 in the summer months (end of June, to be exact)?
In addition, is 1 hr 25 minutes sufficient connecting time from FRA through YYZ to MCI? The AC website recommends 85 minutes for international -> USA flights, and I'm worried about booking a flight with that exact layover duration.

1:25 is more then enough time to connect Intl -> USA in YYZ. You will not need to clear Canadian customs, you'll just be able to proceed straight to US Customs.
Last Flight(s): YHZ-YYT // YYT-YHZ.....Next Flight(s):

Interesting... I always thought that YYZ was quite large and that adding US customs to the to-do list wouldn't give me much time.
I'd be deplaning a 77W and will have checked luggage -- still enough time?

I am sure you will, but make sure you check your baggage right through to MCI.
Yes, you will clear US Customs in YYZ, but it is a pretty slick operation, and you will NOT have to take your bags through Customs, unless they ask. Your bags will be held in a "holding room" in case Customs requests to see them. If so, then they will be brought up for you. Otherwise, like 99% of the transfer passengers, you will not see your bags in YYZ.
As you are going AC to AC, and it is AC's largest hub, trust me, they know you are there and if there are any delays, arrangements will be made for you even before you arrive.

At the moment it is B744. I just flew it a couple of days ago and it looks like that it will be all summer long. I can bid for it in June as well. So chances are good for B744 to DEN.

Oh -- I think I misunderstood how customs works for international -> US connections... generally, it's not that *I* need to wait for the bags, get them, put them through security, re-check them, and get to my gate -- the potentially long wait time is merely for the bags to get off one plane, get screened by Customs, and then go on their own way. Is that correct?
wilco737 -- thanks for the confirmation. I wasn't thinking straight when I wrote the original post -- while I'll be flying to Germany in June, my return trip is in December (which is why the LH site lists an A346. Duh. ). Oops! My bad.

When is your flight? Maybe I will be on it as well

That is correct.
When you arrive in YYZ, follow the US Connections signs. You will bypass Canadian Customs and go up an escalator to the US Customs Pre-clearance area. Air Canada has agents in this area, and there will be a line into Customs. It is in this area where you used to pick up connection bags. However, it would be prudent to check with the Air Canada agent there that this program is still in effect.
It is only very recent that bags were not picked up during the connection, and with security alerts changing all the time, it may have changed back to the "old ways". But even if you had to pickup bags, 85 minutes is lots of time.

I fly ORD-DUS on June 28, and tentatively FRA-DEN on Dec. 26. I wanted badly to book FRA-YYZ (AC 873), but a variety of reasons made me choose the LH flight instead.

Gotcha. This is good to know -- and I very nearly pulled the trigger to book this itinerary -- but because my return date (and departure city) is still flexible, I decided to go with LH instead of AC. Pity, as I've been wanting to get on AC's 77Ws since they announced that order!
