DL17/DL16 Ever Weight Critical?

I am curious if anyone knows if DL's LAX-SYD (#17) and/or SYD-LAX (#16) ever incurs a weight penalty on the B777LR this time of year? I have been checking loads for non-reving and am curious before I get my hopes up.

Right, he's asking if, after they load the plane, there is weight left over for non-revs since sometimes there isn't on the long routes with a lot of cargo.

aa777lvr, that route is on the weight restriction list so I'd have a legitimate backup plan in mind. Everyone I know who's non-revved that route using Delta has gotten a seat though. I don't think it's as bad as some other routes.

Correct-a-mundo! I know non-revs are last priority after revenue passengers, cargo/freight. I know specific weight and balance is dependent on fuel (weather forecast) and cargo. I am just curious how often non-revs have gotten left behind in either direction due to a weight restriction even if their are open seats on the aircraft.

Yes, they will occasionally become weight critical on the route. It's not so much an issue of range and fuel but far more-so an issue of the aircraft reaching MZFW given (what I'm told are) high cargo volumes and weights carried.

SYD is easily within range of the airplane, it just seems it's hit or miss if they have the extra payload capacity. As the other posters have said though, the flights seem to routinely take nonrevs when the seats are available. Just be advised that the route can and does go weight critical from time to time.

Of course the 77L has some restrictions, but I am pretty sure it only has to stay under its max. takeoff weight. I think its range is between 7,000nm and 8,000 nm at max. takeoff weight (anyone know exact #'s), and LAX-SYD is 7,488 statue miles (Great Circle).

it's around 7,600 nm at MZFW and MTOW. LAX-SYD is 6,507 nm.

Yes, but not at MZFW. A 772ER will have to take a payload cut up to 30-40,000lbs in order to operate LAX-SYD.

Yes, albeit very poorly.

They have not.

They used to fly LAX-AKL with 777 but have never sent them to SYD.
