Around The World By Boeing 737

Good day,

we have discussed this here some years ago and now this dreamtrip of mine, around the world by Boeing 737, will probably become a reality next February or March. Maybe some of you would like to help put the itinerary together.

Start and finish is in Germany and ideally this trip would include all continents (except Antarctica, which does not see any regular 737 service), so not only North but also South America. I have worked on some routings already, the biggest challenge really is the Transatlantic portion and the only way to do it seems to be Privatair´s 737 service between EWR and ZRH or do you know of any other 737s crossing the pond? KLM's IAH flight will stop by then, otherwise this would have been an option, too.

To cross the Pacific, Air Pacific comes to mind or United´s (former Continental) service from Guam to Honolulu. Across the US, it´s easy and travelling through Asia is also worry free.

So one possible itinerary might look like this:

SIN-CGK GA 737
CGK-PER GA 737
PER-BNE DJ 737
BNE-NAN FJ 737

I'm not sure how exactly the OP booked it, but in Y would be considerably cheaper than the Privatair BBJ...

Iceland Express (operated by Astraeus) have gone back to an all 737-700 fleet. They fly to EWR, BOS and YWG and are supposed to be adding ORD too. From KEF you have lots of 737 options back to mainland Europe.

Are you sure? The seatmaps are still displaying a 39 row aircraft to Newark, that must be a B757.

With a connection in KEF, you can go to a lot of places in Europe.

That's interesting, all the main fleet listing sites suggest the 757s haven't been in the fleet for a while and likewise several schedule sites list the flights as 737-700 equipment. But flightstats does indeed show the recent flights as being 757 operated. Somewhere there are some crossed wires out there....

If only Iceland Express went 737 only, I would have tons of options. And I think a 737-700 could easily do even their longest flights even to Chicago from KEF. But Sun Country is an interesting option... It is really the Transatlantic portion that causes me some headaches...

No-go! Just flew recently MS, good carrier, but the equipment changed prior departure several times- too risky!

Try something more safe, like flydubai (all B738) or norwegian (to DXB).

That won't be available in February or March! This year the Minneapolis-London Gatwick service started on May 27, last service will be September 2.

Hmmmm, tricky. Maybe I will have to move it to the summer months. Sun Country is really appealing. I also like the routing. Flydubai sounds like a good option to me, too. It would be awkward to be standing at the boarding gate and say "Sorry, I can´t board that flight. It´s an A320."

Still, it's a good few months away, something may turn up transatlantic - Brazil and Africa grow stronger each day and there are some large 737 operators in both places. One operator was about to launch a 737 service between the two a few years ago IIRC, but went bust first.

No, only 757s. I remember when FI began their seasonal KEF-YHZ service using the 737-400. That was then the only way to cross the Atlantic on a 737.

As you want to include Africa and Egypt Air is too prone to equipment change why not use FlyDubai from Luxor to Dubai and use some charter flight where a B737-800 is safe to Luxor, i.e. Tuifly. An alternative would be a safe B737 operator like LOT to Cairo.
A more expensive option to include Africa would be Ethiopian who operate additional flights to FCO in the summer or alternatively change in Tel Aviv or Beirut.
Air Algerie should also have a couple of save B737 routes but I am not sure if the sell through tickets i.e. to CAI and I doubt ALG is an easy airport to connect.

I am not sure but I recall that there might still be some transatlantic charter flights from Scandinavia to Florida/Caribbean by B737, possibly Primavera. But Sun Country is probably the safest bet.
