Going to VER, going to take the train up and leave out of MKE to save a bit. For the same price I can either take an ungodly early departure, or leave the evening before and have an overnight connection in IAH. Might as well do that since I'm going to have to get a motel room no matter which I choose.
So, some questions- First, will I be able to check my luggage all the way? I really don't want to claim it, drag it to a motel, then wait in line to recheck it the next morning. Flying CO (obviously)
Second- suggestions for hotels? I just want a place to sleep, don't need anything remotely fancy.
Third- This whole trip is on ERJs. Am I completely crazy/masochistic?

ERJ's, not completely crazy/masochistic just close enough to have you question yourself!!
As for your luggage, is it small enough to get by with is as a carry-on and gate check it so you'll be able to grab it on the jetway? If so that's how I would work the luggage thing at least inbound to IAH.
As for hotels.....there is a Marriott on the airport between Terminal B and Terminal C. Other hotels close by Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Garden Inn, Sheraton, and probably a few others I am not thinking of at this moment.
Try the Houston Airport System link and I'm sure you'll find something that will fit your desire and also have a shuttle to the hotel from Terminal B.

Not a chance. Sports equipment. It's going to be hard enough doing just one regulation-size checked bag.
As for the unfortunate aircraft type... It's something of an oxymoron when you're going to log 3500 miles on "regional" jets, wouldn't you say? Oh well...ain't got much of a choice in the matter.
