Hi guys
i am planning a short trip to Bali just to fly the KLM 77W. At the same time, since I have a day free, I am thinking of doing a return trip on the same, if possible catch any 737-200 if there are any still flying. Does anyone has any idea which is the best option for me?

737-200 seems to be more and more seldom, even in Indonesia...
I'm not sure if there is still an airline around which exclusively uses them, so that you will be sure to get the right plane.. Kartika used to be one, but they don't fly to DPS as far as I know (you'd easiely get them out of Batam, which can be reached easially in less than one hour by ferry from downtown Singapore)...
You could try Srivijaya or Merpati, I guess they're the safest bet out of DPS... But it seems that airlines prefer to use their newer planes on routes from and to DPS. Maybe an indonesian a.netter can tell us more about it.

Quoting 9V-SVC (Reply 4): Sounds very risky to me, I am not comfortable with the idea though
From Bali there are short flights to Lombok, Sumba and Sumbawa by Merpati MA-60. I know their safety record isn't stellar but their accidents mostly happened at airports with little navigational aid more in the Irian Yaya area. I took a Merpati flight last month DPS-Lombok Mataram and felt safe. You can also get relatively rare (in that part of the world) Fokker 50s from Indonesian Air Transport on this route and Wings Air ATR-72s.
I think Sriwijaya now uses 733s and 734s to/from Bali. More chance to get 732s from Jakarta with Kartika and a few others. Also if you have time, Lion Air still operates a few MD-90s and MD-80s for instance between Jakarta and Lombok and Jakarta and Sulawesi.
For the rest, all the cool Viscounts, Electra's, Vanguards, CN-235s, Fokker 27s and 28s which flew passengers in the 1980s-early 2000s in Indonesia are long gone.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?
