I need suggestions on the best route from MUC to OKC on 22 December returning on 30 December. Unfortunately, since this is not a work trip, I do not have access to the company account, so I cannot just call OS and ask for whatever in Y.
My family is paying for me to go back for Christmas, but the budget is around 1200$, if I am very lucky 1300$.
I must not leave MUC before 11.30, as the earliest I can get to MUC is about 10.15. I will be coming via bus and train Unken-Bad Reichenhall-Freilassing-Munich East-MUC.
OS/LH/LX is preferred, though I am not opposed to UA/CO especially if it has a CO flight number which gives me more miles.
I am also not opposed to flying out of SZG and returning via MUC. The absolute earliest I could be out the door is about 5am. Currently, I am leaving at 6.20am. It is about 45minutes to SZG from my house in good conditions.
The best I could get on ITA Matrix was:
MUC-IAD Dep 11.40 arrive 15.00
IAD-DEN Dep 16.11 arrive 18.09
DEN-OKC Dep 19.45 arrive 22.15
OKC-IAH Dep 7.45 arr 9.05
IAH-EWR Dep 10.45 arr 15.16
EWR-MUC Dep 17.30 arr 7.40+1
I have never flown any other 767 than a 300ER, so a 200 and a 400 would at least be interesting.

Quoting lows (Reply 2): I will use a US passport, so maybe it won't be so bad?
It can still be bad. I rarely connect through IAD, but when I do (on my US passport) it can take well over one hour to deplane, clear immigration, get my bag, clear customs, drop off my bag, go through security and get to the next flight.

Looking back in my journal, I never had any problem connecting in IAD but maybe I have just been lucky. But then it has always been on the IAD-OKC CR7, so I don't know how I have done for time. And OS VIE-IAD seems to get in a weird time.
Also, apparently there is a sandwich place in C/D that is really good. Something Sandwich Werks? I cannot read my own writing.

DL routes MUC-OKC via AMS and MSP and return OKC-ATL-MUC for $848EUR. You would fly KL E170 to AMS and DL 763 and CRJ to MSP and on to OKC. Return via ATL is on an MD88 and 764.
LH routes MUC-ORD-OKC and OKC-IAD-MUC using LH/UA connections. Fare is $974EUR.
US routes MUC via PHL and/or CLT to ORD and on to OKC using UA. Fare is $1004EUR.
I think the best is the DL service as the MUC departure is at 1150am to give you time for train to MUC and return to MUC arrives at 740am for train onward to SZG. DL service transatlantic includes the option to purchase Economy Comfort seating, but meal and beverage service includes free wine and beer anyway if you don't need/want the extra couple inches of legroom. The DL 764 is the best aircraft in DL's transatlantic fleet (I think) with AVOD at every seat and large enough capacity you can always snag a window or aisle on the 2 seat side.
Consider also using DL/KL/AF from NUE although a same day routing all the way to OKC may involve an early morning departure and multiple routings via CDG or AMS and two US airports to get you to OKC the same day. I am suggesting it however as sometimes the KL and AF websites offer lower fares for the same DL flights. This $848EUR fare was using the DL website and originating MUC only. Even try an open jaw.....originate NUE return MUC or vice-versa.
Good Luck with your plans. Book soon. Very busy travel period in the USA and seats will only GO UP IN PRICE. Let us know what you book,
