Hello All,
I'm flying ORD to RSW in January and was thinking of going via MIA and booking a first class lunch flight on the 763. Is this worth it? Last year I went through DFW and had great meals on all four flights. However, after reading a trip report about a flight from JFK to MIA on a 763 two years ago, I had second thoughts since the only offering was a salad or cold sandwich on the lunch flight. I would think a hot meal would be offered. If someone could shed some light before I book my ticket it would be very helpful.

I can't say for sure what AA's policy is but many airlines are moving away from the cookie cutter approach when it comes to F, especially meals. With DL their policy is pretty straight forward as it is based on trip length (miles) and mealtime hours. However, there are some "special markets like ATL-NYC that technically isn't long enough for meals. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is served to JFK/LGA/EWR. JFK-PAP recently started serving meals in Y to align with AA. Another LatAm destination that I can't think of right now but I know its one that's served with the 73G recently upgraded their F offering to something pretty much like BusinessElite with all the courses and a desert tray.

AA's lunch service on this route with a 763 will probably be something like:
Pre-departure drink (up to the FA's working First) but might be an offer of some sparkling wine in the mix.
Cocktails and warm nuts after take off
Choice of entree salad (with some kind of meat) or a hot sandwich
Pita chips with hummus or cheese
Side salad (if you get the sandwich)
Dessert -- most likely cookies (but can vary depending on catering that day)
As you know, what you do get on the AA 763 is the international business class cabin (branded as First Class by AA when it is a domestic route) 60" pitch and angled lie-flat seat.
Few domestic routes for AA's 763's now other than the long haul Hawaii non-stops or the 762's on the trans con. So, getting to fly one on a domestic route is part of the fun.

Thanks. I was looking at some AA First Class lunch photos and on two of the flights, it was mentioned that there was a choice between a salad and a hot entree (enchiladas in one case and a hot sandwich on the other).
On a side note, is this route considered flagship ... I've read conflicting reports.

I do not think it is. Flagships are trans-cons if I am correct so JFK-LAX/SFO and MIA-LAX when there is a wide-body on it.
I am not sure about lunch but in June I flew MIA-LAX 763 nice three course meal but it was a dinner flight even though we took off from MIA at 3:30 and landed in LAX at 5:30 so I basically made it a lunch for me. Also had cookies, warm nuts, pre-departure drink, ice cream sundae. Service was awesome.

Additionally, just so you now, you do not get PTVs on the domestic 763 unless it is JFK-SFO or MIA-LAX (I'm not sure if you get them or not on MIA-SFO). Aside from those, all other domestic 763s are without PTVs. Friendly FYI

Yes, to the disgust of AA FF's since the introduction of the new biz/fc cabin on the 763's several years ago now -- is that they don't load the PTV's designed for this bird on "domestic routes". Not even on the 8 + hour Hawaii non-stops. One just gets the overhead monitors. Much discussed here before over the years. I don't ever fly AA trans con, so not sure if they pass out the smaller personal media players if a 763 is scheduled trans con? Hope they would.

Well when I lfew MIA-LAX it was a 763 with no PTVs in First but they did pass out the headphones and personal media players which were fine. Plenty of choices and games. Not as good as a PTV but not bad either.

Thanks for all your valuable responses. With all this information, is the 767 flight through MIA really worth it? My other option is a S80 lunch flight to DFW and a 738 dinner flight to RSW. It seems like I'd get more bang for my buck, so-to-speak, with the latter option. I'm almost leaning that way considering I'll be flying the 777 to London two weeks before, so I should get my wide body fix then.

I can't think of anything served on AA domestic F that I want to eat.
Even in F I bring a big bag of stuff from Whole Foods and an iPad to entertain myself. I stop at the market on the way to the airport and get a custom sandwich, a salad, and some fruit. I am the envy of the others in F.
